"Edited by..."

No really feedback or a complaint, just curious

Sometimes when I post nonsense informative posts on PH and notice harsh insults/lies/glaring inaccuracies/support for Gordon Brown a few typos in the post*, if I quickly edit the post it appears as I edited it.

If I happen to edit it a few minutes/months/years later, then "Edited by MarkRSi..." appears at the end of the post.

Is there a time period before the "Edited by..." starts to be appended, or some other criteria?



* yes I know there's a preview button and I can proof read/re-edit from there etc. etc.

Isn't it related to if posts have been made after

ie no one has posted you get away with an edit

if someone has posted after you and before you've edited you get "an edited by....."
