Very frustrated when I went to put the golf clubs in the back of the chim yesterday (2 sets and roof off by the way) to find some inconsiderate f
ing pr
ck had kindly reversed (with tow bar looking at the damage) into the back of me. 2 nice grooves and then a crack where the 2 sides now don't meat.
I will do the obvious and look to see who parks near me with a tow bar and hope there is some paint on it - then take photos and approach the owner politely.
My questions are :
1. Is this an expensive repair (no pictures makes this hard I know) but if you imagine a healthy crack, vertically for about 2 inches and the gauge lines leading up to the crack being about an inch long each.
2. I very much doubt I will find the guilty party so it is something I will have to repair. I have protected no claims, is it worth using insurance and can i get other stuff done as well and put it down to the same thing (suggestions recommendations welcome, i was thinking about another scratch, a few stone chips and a respray on the wing mirrors - potentialy front end too if i can say the prang pushed me forwward into the car infront.
3. How does protected no claims work, (Direct Line), do I get 2 claims in 5 years or something or will I be shafting myself by using it.
4. IF I did have a suspicion of who it might have been and can find paint etc on their tow bar - what course of action do i take to make it legal ?
Thanks in advance.

The cost depends on the amount of damage and the paint. My Griff was damaged whilst parked up in France. The nearside front lamp pod was broken and pushed backwards and the GRp was crazed around the hole. Total repair cost was about £700 and the paint on mine is cheap (basic Ferrari red - not a metallic).
The effect on my protected NCD policy was zero. However, yes I will have to declare it for the next 5 years - and I can only have one more claim in the 2 years after it happened before they start knocking off some of the discount.
