Hello,

I have water coming in to the foot well of the drivers side which then runs in to the back footwell behind. I had it checked out at the garage last week and they couldn't find anything obvious after soaking the car with a hose.

I have no sunroof. The carpet on the side just below the door is dry. The seals on windows and doors are fine. Its not dripping from the windscreen. The boot is dry. The Passengers footwell is fine and dry.

It only started about the beginning of Dec, and when I noticed I couldn't get it looked at because of christmas.
When I went to the garage they vacuumed loads of water up, and after the rain this week there's another puddle formed!

Can anyone offer any other suggestions before I have to start driving around with inflatable armbands? (but please simply words as with me its like 'car maintenance for dummies').
Or even suggest any where to go in the Sussex area.

Thank you

I had that in mine { Mk4} the rear passenger foot well, last year.
I don't to this day know where it came from and done nothing to rectify it, it just dried up and went away. Very strange.
Mine's a two door so no door seals or window seals. Very strange.
No one ever sits in the back to piss or spill anything either.
Very strange.

Clean the scuttle drains out in the bit under the windscreen. It's a common problem.

We had it in our Mk 4. Local guy eventually traced it to the tailgate area somewhere, can't remember exactly where. Drilled hole in back seat floorpan.

That is strange. I was hoping mine would dry but its worse after this week. Its like someone has tipped a bucket or 2 of water in the footwell, so I don't think it's going to dry up anytime soon.

MK 1 Fabia are known to suffer from door card problems where water leaks into car and soaks the fotwells. Could this have spread to VW?

I think most VAG products of this era/platform are prone to water leak issues. My Mk4 Golf was pretty bad.

We had a severe leak in our old MKIV V5. Turned out ot be from when the windscreen had been replaced 6 months earlier.

Luckily the missus keeps receipts for everything and it was replaced again FOC>

Are you parking on a slope/any different to before? Family MK4 started leaking when on an uphill climb, would come in over the seal and dribble down into the rear passenger footwell, parking it the other round, ie facing down stopped it, as did when on the flat. Talked to lots of people, looked on t'internet and poked around door cards, drain holes etc to no avail.

Odd, but as on here not uncommon leaks on the MK4.....

It might be a long shot but it's worth trying...

Try using the rear wash wipe and see if any water is coming out the back...on my parents mk4 the tube had come disconnected in the roof lining causing a nice puddle in the the car..

If it is that then it's an easy fix which requires a cable tie and dropping the rear of the headlining..

But it's more than likely what was said earlier that the scuttle drains which are blocked.

Yep, our Mk 4 had that too, maybe not such a long shot. I would definitely concentrate on the tailgate end of the car.

Don't know about VW, but Skoda ( same stable ,so possibly same problem), don't recommend using anything more dense than 50/50 was mix ,else the pipes can part at the joints. So if you clamp the pipe joints make sure the wash mix won't freeze and kill the washer pump . The pipes coming off was to be as a fuse to protect the pump .

I had this. One time it would be passenger footwell, another time the drivers and so on. I was all ready to replace the sun roof seal.

It was traced it to the sunroof drains - rubber pipes that travel down the A-pillar and exit the car by the front door hinge on the A-pillar. The rubber bits that stick out sometimes get gummed up with crap. Best way to to solve it is to look at the pipes sticking out and snip off the flattened nose, and give them a bit of a squeeze to clear the blockage.

Hi im new to this sorry to bring up old thread! I have been struggling with this issue for the past 6 months of owning my beloved mk4 v5 . After half a days worth of stripping out my whole interior and emptying oit nearly 3 litres of water and 4 weeks of drying out all carpet and underlays I think I have finally found my problem..... I cleaned out my drainage holes (I dont have a sunroof) checked all my grommets. I finally wittled it down to the fusebox cover underneath the wiper motor. Im not sure if there is supposed to be a foam seal or something going around it but I have masticed the s*@t out of it and used body panel glue aswell. Hope this helps anyone. Its been driving me mental
