60s Cooper S recreation

Hopefully buying this beautiful mini tomorrow - provided its as good as it looks!
Never had one before.but really want to change much as i think it looks great as it is.

Thoughts?

Change the backlights, and put a 1978/69/70 plate on it.
I take it that theres a chrome gear lever, and a 130MPH speedo.
It looks very cool.

Looks absolutely perfect. I love the wheels and tyres, big chunky sidewalls are definitely cooler than low profile tyres! Bring them back into fashion I say!!

Perhaps it would look better with the older grille, it seems to have the later front grille fitted.

The most fun I have EVER had in a car was driving this very car around the hills of South Wales for a day...



Around 100bhp, limited slip diff, totally stripped bar bucket seats and extinguisher. It was (and still is) the only Mini I've ever driven and it was an absolute blast. Within a mile I was comfortable, giving it full power and 4 wheel drifting around every corner I came to with complete confidence.

I'd give a bk to run one in something like the Monte Historique on proper snow tyres - mile after mile of ice covered hairpins through the Alps would be epic...

As there's no hinges it's a repro of a Mk3 Cooper S, therefore the grill is actually from an older model, a Mk2 Cooper/Cooper S. The Mk3 gril was the std grill used on the rest of the Mini range at the time.

It looks good, Mk2 S front with badge, even without the external hinges it still looks very retro. You could modify the bootlid to fit the Mk1/2 hinged rear number plate and light.

The pics make me want another Mini to add to the collection!

No external door hinges means it'll be iD'ed by mini fans as a fakey. Just find some Mk2 rear light clusters, and older front indicators (chrome rimmed), it'll help the look and is a easy update.

Cars looks ace. But I'm biased

Another vote for early lights instead here! Looks great apart from that though and I love Minis on 10" wheels. The worst thing I ever did to mine was put it on 13"s.

The boot light looks all wrong on that as well imo.

Someone should of made the effort to convert to the earlier style boot light, which is smaller and lights from the bottom.

Still a really nice looking mini, just a bit of a mix mash of styles perhaps? Im only jealous lol

Its about erm, three different shades of beige and a bit of grey and a bit of bare metal and rust and primer and black

I never got the whole belt buckle on the bonnet. Even in the 60's they had bonnet clamps so i can't understand why Mini, Jag etc went for them

Went to see it today and paid him 4500£. Think its worth it as it has had so much done to it with new parts everywhere. Bit slow as its the original 998!

Would you believe it started life as a 1988 Mayfair!!

Wife is not amused but i told her it should go up in value if looked after!
