Any tips for taking pictures of rooms for estate agency pics

Hi All,
Just about to put my house on the market but the internal estate agent photographs are really disappointing. So bad, in fact, that I decided that I would take my own this weekend instead.
The EA photos look like he's taken them from a step ladder placed in really odd positions and they all look overexposed and just wrong!
Does anyone have any hints or tips for getting the best results (viewpoints etc). I'll probably use a digital compact as I don't have a wide enough angle lens for my 300D, but it does have plenty of settings to play with.
My son and his tenant lived in a fairly tired and untidy house.
When it went on the market I photographed it for the agent's details.
I tided it all up, dressed it with any nicer items that I found around the house,
carefully composed the shots and corrected all the verticals in the images.
It looked really good in the photos but everybody who came to view said that they were really disappointed with the reality

t out of the picture.Ask the estate agent why his/her pictures are so sh*t. Ask them to take them again. YOU are the customer.
To be honest, why are you even bothering with an estate agent in the first place?
A fool and his money…
If you are taking photos because the 'original' one are so poor then ask for 50% knocking off their fee…
Or you'll withdraw the property from the market/not allow any viewings until their contract termination period has been used.
What about other properties they have for sale? Are the photos as bad there? If yes, then you have made a poor choice.
