I've just acquired a 2001 Renault Kangoo van.

The ignition barrel was replaced in its former life as a key snapped of. The button on the remote doesn't work. The door locks open with a different key, but this is bent and you have to do it at a certain angle to lock and unlock it.

I want to replace all the locks and ideally have it working from the remote, central locking (the central locking button in the van itself works).

Where do I start, and would it be easier paying someone else to do it?

I tried to join the Renault forums but despite a multitude of different combinations of usernames and email addresses it tells me I'm a spammer.

Wonderful, I think I've managed to immobilise it now and I can't undo it. Note to self: always avoided French crap for a reason...

If you can.... lock and unlock it a couple of times, using the key itself....The immobilizer times out on these, vehicles. It caught me out a few times years ago when we had ours and it wouldnt start, after being left unlocked for ten minutes or so

Thanks for reply. Do you mean lock and unlock with the central locking remote fob? If so, this doesn't work and didn't work to begin with, and the doors are unlocked manually with a different key.

No manually lock and unlock the door lock psychically with the key.

Well that was eventful!

Tried what you said, then put the key in the ignition, turned it to II and I heard a relay click and the lights on the dash came on for an absolute blip of a second, blink and you'd miss, it then nothing.

Turned the key back and forth pressing and holding the button no joy.

In frustration I clicked the button several times outside the ignition and all of a sudden the van beeped and the fob then worked to lock and unlock all the doors (except drivers). This works fine now, beeps and side lights flash to lock and unlock. Alarm worked as well as I locked it with fob, then unlocked it without fob and the alarm went off till I pressed the fob.

Immobiliser still having none of it though....

Went for another go, no problems went straight away. I suspect there is a loose relay/fuse/connection somewhere, I'll have to have a look at some point.
