What have you bought for your bike this year?
Discussion
Last year for me was a bit of a disaster for cycling. Working odd shifts and hours in my last job, having an off on a motorbike hurting my knee then to top it off I badly buckled my rear wheel (still not sure how) and had my Cateye speedo die on me too. As a result of this my weight went up and fitness went. So It's a new year and a fresh start and I've treated my Ribble to a set of Shimano RS81's, new Ultegra cassette and chain, Garmin 510 and a proper bike fitting so it's spot on.
I have no excuses now and just from a diet change my weight is going back down already. Target weight of 14st is easily doable but lots of work to do. I still need a turbo trainer for when the weather is way too bad. The rear wheel was repaired so I'll use it for this. Can anyone recommend a reasonable one?

Selle Italia SLR saddle.
I received a Garmin Edge 800 for Christmas so bought myself the out front mount. A £10 ebay knock off, not an identical £30 Garmin branded one.
I'm now looking at swapping my old metal 105 pedals for some carbon Ultegra pedals (if they're ever in stock at Wiggle). I also saw a FSA SLK carbon chainset on Ebay that is tempting me.

I'm at the stage now where the only thing that needs changing is me. The more I ride, the more weight I'll lose and the faster I'll get. The bike, once finished today will be the quickest it's ever been so there's no excuses.
Are cycling rollers any good instead of a turbo trainer? I have heard they are tricky to use.

New shifters, rear mech, hanger, bar tape and quick links thanks to being knocked off my bike in november.
Also toying with new pedals now mine a scratched, and seeing as i'll have new cleats, and the ones on my current shoes are quite new, i may as well get new shoes to go with them.

Gorseinon to Burry Port? Tell us more.
I was raised in Gorseinon, up by the hospital, and as a teenager in the summer my favourite ride out was a trip to Pembrey Country Park on my Raleigh Record Sprint for a day at the beach. I met a lovely lady who was somewhat older than myself (she worked at the beach cafe there). She introduced me to the 'ways of the world', shall we say, and so that route holds fond memories for me.
I also imagine it's a fair bit quieter now, as far as traffic goes. Back in my day the old Loughor Bridge was still there, and there was no coast path so I had to ride through Llanelli.
I had a couple of other favoured routes, one was a loop up through 'Bont and anti-clockwise around the 'mountain' to Garnswllt and back down, and then another out to Dunvant, down the old railway line to Swansea Bay, then a clockwise lap of the Gower, back into Gorseinon via Pen-clawdd.
Is Gorseinon still as grim as ever? The surrounding area can be lovely, but the town itself can be depressing, to say the least.

Gorseinon to Burry Port now is quite a nice route. Not that hilly but a consistently good route. I live around the corner from the hospital too on Brynteg so I'll go from there over the bridge, follow the new coast road that passes the wetland place then I join the track at North Dock. From here the track is fantastic. Smooth, loads of room and no traffic. Even though there is track from Llanelli to Bynea it's rough and not great for a road bike. My other routes are similar to yours. Gorseinon to Mumbles via the old railway line, I sometimes go anti- clockwise around Gower through Penclawdd, Llanrhidian then over the common to either Mumbles then back down the line or if I have less time back through Dunvant or if even less Three Crosses past the golf course. There is a track that goes to Tumble from Llanelli so then you can circle back to Bont but they've put blocks up to stop motorbikes. Means you start cycling uphill, you get up to speed and you have to slow down to negotiate them.
Gorseinon is still dire. Still depressing and still full of takeaways and places to eat. Think I counted over 30
