Alternative to AD08

I've used Goodyear F1 Assymetric 2's on both sprints and trackdays and find they hold up quite well.
Bridgestone RE070's are also mean't to be quite good but I don't have any experience of them myself.
The thing is, I don't want them to hold up well -- I want them to be sticky. AD08s had the combination of sticky rubber, aggressive tread pattern (i.e. not much tread at all) and stiff sidewalls. I'm not sure what made the most difference -- the pattern, the compound or the sidewalls. Bridgestone RE070's are also mean't to be quite good but I don't have any experience of them myself.

Indeed - for my use on autosolos, I believe that it is the sidewalls being so stiff that helps. Other tyres tend to roll a lot more and this causes the outside edge to wear massively compared to the rest of the tyre. I did get reasonable use out of them so believe that the compound itself is nearly as hard as other tyres I have used in that I didn't skin them much quicker than any other rubber.I have used Parada spec 2's before and I think these are much worse than the AD08s for rolling on the rims. I also use the Toyo Proxes on the TVR but I think these are too hard wearing.
I didn't want to respond before others had made some suggestions as this is exactly the predicament that I find myself in - nothing will be as good as the AD08s.
I was thinking of trying the Avon ZV3s next time to see if I get on with these otherwise, I will be looking the the suggestions in this thread.
It would be nice if someone somewhere actually tested tyres in a meaningful way to indicate which may be best on track but I have yet to find anything on the web that gives this kind of information. Equally, it is v hard to find anything that compares the rubber compounds from one manufacturer to the other which I find surprising.
I guess it will just be trial and error for me this year....

You're right in that our front AD08s were as knackered at the end of the season this year as the T1-R we ran in previous years, however the T1-R rolled so much that we wore the manufacturer's name off the sidewalls...On the other hand, I've fitted AD08 to my Z4MC road car (it's been winter all the time since then -- nightmare) and the people over at Z4-forum reckon they last nowhere near as long as other options (Michelin PSS, Vredestein Ultrac).

I have the same dilemma, running a Pug 205 Gti in the standard 1600cc sprint class and need to use 195/50/15 list 1a tyres. I am going to use the Toyo T1R to start with, as last year I beat our 2013 champ who was on the Yoko AD08, using my Toyo T1Rs in one round. T1R's cannot be that bad IMHO, and I never rubbed off the side walls!!! JJC sell a set of four for £149 inc delivery, so cheap as chips too. But I do plan on getting a set of Michelin Pilot Exalto in 205/15/15 next, they are about £250 per set. Do not think either tyre will put me at a disadvantage to be honest.
- sorry just edited to add I thought it was the OP who needed 195/50/15, just realised you are on 17's. I think the Toyo's work on lighter cars better than they do on the heavier / 4wd cars. I have an Impreza road car and use T1R / Goodyear Eagle F1 and they seem fine with the pressures played with, but that car has never had a stopwatch on it!

The one I am considering for 1A in place of the AD08 is the Federal 595 RS-R - looks like it could be quite good, it isn't available in the 225/45-16 size I ideally want though so will have to go 205/50-16 if I use that. Anyone tried them?
Federal 595 RSR is list 1B see http://msauk.org/uploadedfiles/msa_forms/bluebooks...carl_w said:

Thanks, still waiting for my blue book to arrive and I hadn't looked closely enough at the list to have spotted that. Oh well, back to something less attractive.carl_w said:
