Rear derailleur woes. Help!

Argh!

I took my rear derailleur off the other day as I had to replace the barrel adjuster, whilst I had it off I gave it a quick going over with a citrus degreaser and GT85, nothing more.

On putting it back on the bike this morning I've discovered that no matter how much tension I put on the cable I can't get the chain to shift into smallest cog, the chain is also rubbing against the spokes in the largest cog.

On looking at the position of the derailleur from behind it would appear that the limit screws have moved inwards by about half a cog on both the upper and lower screw, I'm 99.99999% certain they were not adjusted whilst I had the derailleur off.

Help!

I've made sure the derailleur is correctly seated and there is no suggestion at all the the rear hanger has been bent, damaged etc.

Chainset is Ultegra and I've adjusted it plenty of times before with no issues

Are you sure it's the limit screws, and not something else? I'd suggest unhooking the cable from the frame (just take the cable housing off one of the end stops) and moving the mech by hand to set the limit screws, then hooking up the cable and sorting the tension.

It does sound more like the hanger or something like that isn't properly seated tho..

The fact both limits have moved inwards by about 2mm would suggest an issue with hanger or the way the deraiileur has been installed I've even made sure the b screw is correctly seated.

Most puzzling and I can't dis any results on Google with similar symptoms.
