997TT gen 1 exhaust upgrades & remap on a budget

Hi all,

I have just bought a 2008 997 TT tiptronic. Totally standard. I've read a lot of these forums about exhausts upgrades. They are mostly out of my price range of 3k plus.

What is a value for money exhaust that gives my turbo the noise to match its power? Preferably with no horrible resi when cruising on motorway but screams when flat out. I drive through London everyday to work so would need something that come to life when nailing it.

I'm looking to do a revo remap or dms.

Is DMS exhaust any good? Anyone got a sound clip.

And also how much a re map?

Heard a lot of good reviews about them. I know they don't like to talk hp. They prefer the stop watch. However any ideas on hp with both upgrades?

But it's all £££ dependant.

No Its rapid compared to most road cars. Just could be faster. Raced cars all over Europe for 9 years so wouldn't mind finding a bit more punch.

Exhaust is about £4k plus a few hundred to fit. I expect they'll remap for about £7-800.

Definately don't skimp on a remap especially on what is min £40k car. Many happy with fearnsport.

you will get another 50bhp min with remap and exhaust. So 530 ish bhp and 550 torque

ive heard figures of 575/600bhp.

hardly worth touching for the sake of 50bhp and down £4k plus.

Thought i would see more of a difference but obviously not.

yes a few outfits (mainly US) claim that sort of gain but its nowhere nr that in reality. Also without proper intercoolers on repeated runs some of these tuned cars are often slower than stock 0-300kph. You'd also need to fork out on an uprated clutch as standard clutch can't take the extra power over a period of time.

Like IMI said you need a clutch as it will start to slip under load and descent coolers as the VTG turbos get very hot after a few blasts.

Don't go too cheap with the products as with cheap there is always a risk in the long run!!

What did you pay and who supplied and fitted it for you in the uk?

Sorry Ed I should have read in the first post about you having a Tiptronic

I had the sound version with 200cel cats and it was quite loud but sounded awesome.

The TUV would be I am assuming how you want it to sound for central London.

Nice at low revs and step on the gas for nice sound.

I get all my parts from FVD direct.

Hi Nick, Can you really feel the extra horsepower? As OP says awful lot of money for circa 50hp. £5k for tuning kit inc fitting. Say £3k for clutch inc labour. Thats £8k for 50-70hp. Whats the 0-300kph for this stage 2 kit by FVD?

Yes you can feel it, it is like night and day.

I cant remember off the top of my head what the 0-300kph is but it would be a good 5s to 6s faster than stock at a guess, so probably low to mid 30's.

I remember when I was at Bruntingthorpe using a V-Box I recorded a 0-60mph of 3.4s and 0-100mph in 7.3s also a 60mph to 130mph of 8.3s with a soft launch from 3500rpm and I weigh a good 115kg.

Just with a stage 2 and the Tips would probably be even quicker!

I have a few mates who got a remap and miltek exhaust for around £3k from FS, this was a couple years back. If you want the car to scream you will probably need a non turbo version. As mentioned horsepower difference wont be too different with basic remap and zorst, however it will be quicker and of course feel it.

I will soon I promise.

I have had my engine rebuilt to 3.8ltr now with hybrid VTG's.

Just gotta finish it off in a few weeks hopefully.
