After over 60,000 (sore rather rapid) miles, the 335d is moving on to pastures new. I've been pondering whether to keep it or change, and today the decision was made.

After failing to find a suitable BMW to replace it with (at least one that I could afford), I've plumped for this:

It's a Golf GTi with the DSG gearbox. Hopefully it'll tide me over until the 4-series, the new Civic Type-R and the new baby Merc/Jags have been out.

Aren't you going to miss the abundant torque of the 335d ?

It doesn't realty both me TBH. I did consider another diesel, but I decided that for what I need this will fit the bill (at least until the new small Jag and the 4-series become available on the S/H market).

These things are like rocking horse teeth, and this one has almost every conceivable extra on it, so no point in hanging around.

First off, the boot with the back seats up was too small.

Second, the interior was just too black and festooned with too many controls and the satnav screen was set too low.

Finally, I didn't really like the black alloys (too chav), and it made the brake disks look tiny..

and finally - it had red brake callipers.

You didn't notice these things when you bought it ? smile

Gotta to agree about the black Audi alloys on a golf, they're not to my taste
Dynamically, golf would be much better than bm, but not everyone wants a super dynamic car

FWIW they're not Audi alloys, they were an optional 19" VW alloy called the Glendale, that first appeared (I think) on the fabulous GTI Cabriolet Concept.

I didn't buy it - I put down a refundable deposit while I checked the finances. It was at this point that I found that (1) the trade-in they were offering was too low and (2) the 335d had appeared.

They did improve the trade-in, but it still wasn't as good at that from the BMW dealer, and it annoyed me a bit that they didn't do that the first time.

I stand corrected. They actually look good on that concept picture
