I have a bit of a dilema.
We have three white cats, lovely things. One of my mates from school daze has moved into our street. He also has a few cats.
I work out of the country and am getting messages about his cat flap being destroyed and one of his cats attacked. It needed a trip to the vets the first time and was issued with an 80 quid bill.
He says it was one of my cats. I don't know which of our cats did it, as they all look the same to him.
It's now happened a second time.
The misses told me 'do not pay the vet bill!' The money isn't an issue.
What do you all think? How do I make this situation go away?
I'm not close to the neighbour but I quite like him.

Do not pay, unless he has absolute proof of it. Cats scrap, his are the new ones unfortunately, things may settle in time. Law isn't the same for cats as dogs, you have no legal obligation to pay.
If he did have photographic evidence then offer of payment may be nice to offer.
End of the day it's up to you but it could just as easily been one of your cats injured. Just because his was doesn't mean your cat instigated the fight.

We currently have a black cat that's moved into the area.
And Alan and the new cat have taken to fighting (must be well over a month now). Given Alan accepts about 6 other cats, we have to suspect it's the new one instigating things. Now Alan has a wound on his back and we've decided to try and keep him in for a while.
Tis an irritating situation. But there's not a whole lot we (us or the black cats owners) can do about it.

We had a Bengal thing move into the area and it started beating up our 16 year old tom. Now I understand cats will be cats but two trips to the vet and £120 later saw me start to throw things and shout at it whenever the bloody thing came in sight, did you know a Bengal can clear a six foot fence in one go when hit on the hind quater with a potato?
This proved quite successful and it would run like hell every time it saw me. However when I explained the situation to the owner one day, after he saw me launch a spud at it, all he said was was "I try to keep it in but it gets out, not much I can do about it."
I said no problem, if it happens again I'll shoot the bloody thing and walked off.
I've seen it once in the last twelve months so I guess he's doing a better job of keeping it in.
PS. I don't have a gun and even if I did I wouldn't shoot it.

Cats are cats.
They beat the s
t out of each other, sometimes badly.
People just need to accept this fact and get over it. There's nothing anyone can do about it.
I have a 4 year old domestic shorthair that is as hard as nails and will well and truly fight with all 80kg of me if I start on him.
He has required a couple of £70 trips to the vets in the time I've had him due to having been bitten, torn ear, ripped out claw etc, all from fighting, and I have no doubt that there has been a few times where whichever cat he was fighting with had to be taken to the vets.
I don't think I would have been able to keep a straight face if someone had complained to me that my cat has beaten up their cat.
You would be mad to pay the bill in my opinion, but if this person is a friend, it just makes the situation that bit more awkward...
Here's mine about to kick my arse:

Our ginger cat Tom used to be involved in a few fights when he was young.
When he got to about 12 he got a beating once or twice. He came in one morning snarling at me and run upstairs and slept on the chair for a few days.
Lost of ginger hair in the garden so I knew he been in trouble.I took him to the vet no cuts or damage just his pride I think.
Lovely cat he's been dead about five years I miss him.He lived until fifteen years buried in the garden.

Some friends of mine had a cat that looked identical to this one and we all nicknamed it Killer cat. We were all scared of it. It used to hide (behind the sofa, behind doors) and then leap on you grabbing whatever it could with its teeth and claws and then hang on. He would do this with its 'owners' too.

Mental thing. It could take on anything.
We were all sad when he eventually had to be put to sleep though.
We have taken in a local cat, or more likely he moved in but since we had cats before it wasn't an issue.
Only thing is he's a people cat with a great personality who wanders in and out of a few neighbours houses so is well known, but will only tolerate one or two other cats. His usual entertainment is looking for a scrap when he's out, and if there's noise outside, he's usually involved. The only saving grace is he's a bit overweight and unfit, so I could only laugh when I was stood with a neighbour watching him chase another cat down the street, before giving up though exhaustion.

That's exactly the same here.. If I have people round and he wanders into the room and people almost leap up onto the furniture screaming

A complaint of "your cat just BIT ME!" Isn't uncommon!
