Hi all,

I'm looking for some advice with finding the right type of bike and size for my needs.

I currently have two bikes but find them quite uncomfortable to ride. I'm 6ft tall and quite a big build but find it uncomfortable cycling mainly because of the amount I'm leaning over and the handle bars are quite low in comparison to the the seat. This puts strain on my arms and back.

The type of riding I want to do it road/ country paths type of thing, but I want to be comfortable and more upright than leaning over. I'll post up what bikes I currently have, maybe I can modify them to make them more suitable for me or I'm open to selling both of them and buying another.

Thanks in advance

Can you take pics of the bikes, it'll help figuring out what's going on.

How much do you weigh?

Back/arm pain is quite common for those riding road bikes - typically this is caused by having a weak core, thus relying on arms to provide the support when in the drops.

How often do you ride?

Core strength exercises (e.g. plank) as well as more frequent riding will improve core strength. If you're already riding regularly then it could be a poor bike fit (frame size, stem length etc).

As above, post some pics and give us some more detail.

The bikes i have are a Marin Muirwoods and a Dyno Moto Seven.

Im not a regular cycler at all, and one of the reasons i want to get back into it is to improve my fitness, so i would say my core strength is not good. Im 6ft tall and weight 17st. I suffered a broken tib and fib in my left leg while playing football (18 month ago), and i guess since then i havent really cycled more than a couple of miles.

Change the stem on the Marin for somethign shorter, and possible with a bit of rise to it.
