Blasts from the pasts! I need a new amp. Advice please!
Discussion
Hello all!
So my Dad has given me a pair of Epos ES14's (first blast), not bad speakers. When I was a younger man he used them for a while as the rears on a full Linn set up.
I used to use a Creek 4040 (second blast) when I was about 10 along with a Marantz CD player. I was a lucky lad getting these hand me downs at such a young age!
So now my girlfriend has a Creek 4040 but it's seen better days, in fact I don't know how it ended up in the state it is! I think it's time we move on and upgrade. I want to look at an amp that will connect wirelessly so I can use my iPhone to stream music from my collection and also spotify etc.
What does everyone suggest?
Thanks in advance.

Buy an Airport Express, which is a Wifi access point, extender, audio streamer, and has a 3.5" analogue and digital audio out - then you can use the line/digital in on ANY amp you want.
You can configure it a number of ways - as an extender to your current wifi, or use it as your main wifi AP. You can use more than one and they fully synchronize music playback.

sonos connect:amp with bridge or Sonos Connect with a separate amp giving more flexibility to upgrade in the future.
This will be more expensive than the apple route but will be much more flexible in the future if you want to go multi room.
PS the Creek was good in its day the Connect +Creek may still be a better option than the Connect:amp

I use an Airport Express to stream to my HiFi, If you want decent sound then you may be disappointed. MP3/AAC sounds poor, then the DAC in the Express is poor, leads to a poor quality sound.
However, it's very convenient to dial up some music on your iPhone and steam it direct, so I tend to use it for background music, I still play CDs for serious listening.

ES14's are one of those speakers that need a good amp that plays to the speakers strength. The Old Claymore and a NAIM's are the sort of thing you need to look at. The Audiolab 8200 and Pioneer A400 were also some people's cup of tea with them. You could run then with the Creek just contact them and see if the Amp can be sorted.

I agree, I used to be bothered about quality, but as I am either streaming Spotify or downloaded mp3s, the quality isn't there anyway. However, it's very convenient to dial up some music on your iPhone and steam it direct, so I tend to use it for background music, I still play CDs for serious listening.

I have not bought a CD for ages.

Pardon my ignorance, but if you use the optical output of the Airport Express, I would assume the DAC in the Airport Express is not used, or is it? Additionally, a lot of amps offer Airplay and Spotify Connect, eliminating the need for an additional device (such as a Sonos or Airport Express).
