Hi all, just an update but I've sorted out a suitable Wedge. Viewed a straight and what appears to be an honest one on Saturday, done the deal, so I'm picking it up this Sunday. Many thanks for the those of you that contacted me directly regarding potential purchases. As soon as I've got the Wedge safely home I'll put some photos up. Car is standard 350i, 1987, dark metallic green with tan interior. Car appears to have a good solid chassis which has been painted white in the past. It has had new outriggers, with history photos. Surprisingly virtually all of the electrics work(apart from low speed on the heater fan)and the engine started from cold without issue and ran fine until warmed up. Once warm the rad fan kicked in all okay at just over half way up the temp gauge. I'll get together a list of "improvements" needed. Immediate ones include front tyres which are slightly perished, the passenger door has dropped a fair bit so this needs readjusting, as does the window. Mileage is a little high at 105k but has an arm full of receipts for bits fitted to it over the years. There's a small oil leak where the remote oil filter bolts to the block (Anyone know what gasket this needs?) Despite the mileage the car has done less than 1500 miles in the last 4 years so first job will be to change all fluids. Fingers crossed it's not pouring with rain when I collect on Sunday. BBWF here I come....

Congratulations, Welcome to the fold! Good luck with the fettling, it is good fun too (realy!!).

I wouldn't worry about the oil leak for now, just get to know the car better and then decide what needs doing. Mine leaked in that area and resisted attempts to fix it; I think it was several small leaks combining to make a drip every so often. It was only sorted when I had the front cover off to change the cam and carefully replaced all the gaskets, the remote filter seals and the copper washer under the oil pressure relief valve spring cover.

I get my parts from various places but generally look for parts made by quality suppliers; don't buy the cheapest you can get on the bay. Rimmer bros are good for engine bits, but again buy OEM stuff (original equipment manufacturer).

Nice one. Well done and welcome to the Wedge scene. Everything you mention is normal on a Wedge that is in use, and you will fix them all in time. There is always help on this forum. Looking forward to seeing you at the BBWF. Enjoy.
