This would be my desired next step from my 3.4 996. Though this would not be for another 2-3 years, and whilst I know none of you have a crystal ball, where, in the opinion of those in the know, would prices of said car be? Roughly?

You're probably right - prices just now are in the early 60s for RHD, so probably mid 40s-50 by then.

There was a RHD "X", 60k miles in Autotrader for £54k a few weeks back...............

Briefly toyed with selling mine a few weeks ago but was shocked to only be offered high 50's by the OPC. That's a 02 plate with 12k miles. Its not a good time to sell.

And a 19k mile 'X' plate Turbo for £58 at Lancaster Colchester. Seems very good value from an OPC.
