Recently I noticed that the clutch pedal seemed to be coming up slowly after changing gear. This morning when I tried to engage gears with the engine started I couldn't. Reverse just made a loud grinding noise and forward gears just wouldn't go in, even when I pushed hard. I changed the slave cylinder today and bled the system. The old cylinder, whilst had no leaks did seem pretty weak and the push rod fell out on the floor. After bleeding the system I went for a quick drive. The bite point was very low and the pedal still seemed to come up slowly. It was difficult to engage all gears although they would go in.

There is no obvious leak in the system and the master cylinder looked okay from what I could see from the engine bay. I tried to drive it again ten minutes later and I had the same issues that I had this morning.

I was at Curborough sprint track on Thursday and did a lot of fast starts, probably over 20 in all. The car drove okay afterwards and I drove 120 miles home no issue. I didn't drive the car from Thursday night until this morning.

The clutch has never slipped at all, so I'm not sure what else it could be. Master cylinder? Some other part of the clutch?

I had to change both master and slave on the MGF.
Bled it thoroughly and now its perfect. Took ages for me to get it right. I'd change the master aswell if I were you and get some help bleeding it through, I had a lot of air in the system.

Good luck, doesn't sound like the clutch is worn if there's no slippage, just a hydraulic / air issue.

Okay, thank you.

I tried pumping the clutch to see if the pressure would build but it made no difference.
