It's a pity most of it is just a technical overview of stuff we've known for ages.

I read the article, fascinating engineering.

"interesting fact you can switch to E-mode while driving at any speed so even at 200mph you can activate E-mode and continue at 200mph on electric power" : I take it the battery would empty in seconds ?

BUT, the guy doesn't actually say anything about how the car handles ??? That's the problem with those cars, it's difficult to find a journo who is also capable of exploring the cornering limits of such extraordinary machines. You really need a racing driver used to that level of lateral acceleration.

I really doubt that 170BHP from the electric motor is enough for 200mph.

Also read Sutcliffes review in Autocar for a word on the handling. Apparently she's a bit of a fighter.

Are you lot reading a different review to me? That GTspirt review is awful, and i hope translated from a different language considering how clunky the wording is!

laugh

Never understood that non-matching tile episode though. All that proved was how poor the planning was. Any decent builder orders more than he needs within the same batch and the surplus becomes a stock item for 25/30 years worth of breakage, which, if laid properly, should not be that many tiles.

Slight digression from the P1 though !

i would bet the journo is local to the region. we have to put up with that crap all the time - articles lifted from press blurb and a sentence or two about how it drives.

There's a lot of tiles at McLarens factory. How many do you want them to keep spare? From the same batch?

But there's loads of stories out there about the planning and building of the place if you search around. Seems it wasn't a smooth build. But then I guess that's what RD wanted. Not just "Ok" but above that.

It doesn't get commented on much now, but I still think it's a disgrace that the flagship car from Britain's top supercar manufacturer does not come in RHD.

I look at it this way:
They are for export.

Agreed it's not lovely from a patriotic point of view, but it was the same with practically everything new the UK produced in the 50's and 60's (practically all cars from initial production runs were for export).

Look at it as circa £400m of exports (375x £1.05-£1.2m, since nobody is buying an uncustomised P1). Anyone know how many of the cars are staying in the UK anyway?
