They're made by Mazda. They have a 2.3 engine.

My dad has the (2wd) version with this engine. 50,000 trouble free miles. Even sees high 30s MPG.

The most interesting thing I can think of is I believe it's the largest 4 cylinder engine produced of recent times.

My boss had one. At 110,000 miles in 3 years the cam chain stretched and the engine smashed itself to bits.

It was at the end of the lease. A right stink went off about who was paying the bill as he was over on a couple if services. The engine was replaced at a cost of about five grand.

Largest petrol I4. I think there are one or two 2.4 I4 diesels, and Subaru did a 2.5 boxer 4 (may still in other markets?).

This topic came up on another thread inspired by the one at £1200 on Ebay.

Feeling was they're thirsty and a bit uninspiring. That said I was keen enough and would look at it if I was in the market.

2.5MZR was available in the UK in the mk2 6, I had one for a while

The new Mazda6 has a DI version of that engine, but not in the UK

I know nothing but am wont to suggest a Jag X-Type as an alternative - of which I have no experience either - but they do go "cheap".

Isn't the 2.3 the MPS, not the Sport?

You can get the 3 with the 2.3 engine in, but it isn't 4-wheel drive.

There's a few NA 2.3s with AWD kicking about.
