Supersport - Std exhaust v trackday exhaust

I'm still pondering over my spec. and contemplating the trackday exhaust which is a no cost option on the Supersport. I understand the "pea shooter"? standard exhaust gives off a lot of "character" but is possibly too loud for normal trackdays, may creep under on a noisy day but possibly too loud for the quieter ones. I actually have tinnitus and so a quieter exhaust might in fact be better for me. How similar in "character" are the two exhausts and would anybody have any links to videos/threads of the car with both exhausts? I've had a look around but nothing immediately jumps out to me.

The microphone for the vbox is in the passenger footwell so probably losing some of the noise.

An aftermarket, repackable exhaust is possibly the answer. These tend to rob the car of little power, and also retain a decent sound. The choice of packing material can also have a bearing on the noise reduction of any given silencer.

Appreciate you don't want to spend more than you have to though, especially if you have a choice at the initial build stage.

Thanks fella. So 102db measured at Combe, claim of 108db, I guess at the tip? It will definitely be a noisy day only exhaust then.

This is the rub. I can spec. the right exhaust from the outset at no cost, just a question of which is the right one.

Do both give a full compliment of snap, crackle and pop on the overrun?

You mean as an option? Is this ^ not the no cost track day option?

Oddly, the 140bhp engine doesn't pop or burble as much as the 125.

It still sounds great though and loves to rev. Like I said before, I have a Roadsport exhaust and honestly I wouldn't want it any louder. It's bloody loud anyway, ear plugs are a must on long journeys, especially at motorway cruising speed (though you'll be a bit better off with a 5 speed on the motorway, mine's a 6 speed).

Put it like this, no one has any troubles hearing me coming. I was told by the other half when I went to get petrol last year, she could hear the car about 5 minutes before I actually arrived .

Yes i got the car from someone else and they had the exhaust damaged as well as a side panel. Got side panel repaired and the exhaust had following put over it https://j03t8w.dm1.livefilestore.com/y2pO4lREH17dr... It was a racing car hence had some friendly bumps/bruises that I didnt want to start with and went exhaust cover route.

Still sounds great to my mind and I went to Oulton Park last year (if you only watch 1 clip make it that as my driving is poor) and got the noise test done with revving and them holding sound meter in and was fine.

Great for pedestrian safety! It's all well and good this "be kind to the environment" business as long as you live long enough to have not been wiped out by a silent electric vehicle!

Can't seem to see that image for some reason?

Was the Oulton day a noisy day (105db) can you remember?

I would also say after track days I am going to initially try some ACS Pacato noise suppressors - same as the ER20 but they have stalks whereas pacato are flush http://www.acscustom.com/uk/images/stories/virtuem... which are better for helmets i think (not bought em yet)

As for the popping, banging and grumbling of the 125, I didn't notice any of this in the 140 I rode in

No mine doesn't particularly pop or burble really.

There's a lot of induction noise and plenty of roar when you put your foot down, but no burbling. I hired a 125 Roadsport with the same exhaust and that popped and burbled quite a lot - I've heard a few people say the 140 doesn't burble as much.

Sorry, got exhausts going through my mind. It looks to be honest like yours is the trackday exhaust option not the peashooter.

I'm with you now. Shame about the lack of burbling etc. but I guess it's not a dealbreaker.
