Today I bought two 350g fillet steaks to throw on the bbq to celebrate my anniversary with my girlfriend. We love meat and can't get enough of it.

When my colleague asked me what I bought, she almost hurled up her lunch and told me it looked disgusting so I put it away along with the fresh meat sausages and foie-gras I plan to add to my calorific meal tomorrow. (I didn't even tell her I had that in the bag)

Annoyingly however, I'm getting more and more pestered by so-called vegetarians trying to dictate what I should eat and how immoral I am. Apart from being annoying like flies, I couldn't give a rats arse about what they eat but I do care that people try and shove diets down my throat. Even the BEEB is banging on about it on their news site these days.

I like meat. I will always eat meat. And there is nothing better than a matured fillet steak grilled on the BBQ. It's magic.

So I wonder what kind of diets do the people on PH eat? I eat anything and everything at least once. (Apart from strange Thai chicks in eggs and slimey stuff). The point is if it looks good and smells good, I'll give it a try.

Tbh I've encountered less militant vegetarians these days but think in general most people are better educated about food and likely to think more about portion sizes and conditions in which meat was reared.

This.

Fillet steak is hardly an odd meat choice is it?

I'd divorce my wife if she became a vegan/vegetarian or any of that other crap.

Perhaps she was shocked at the idea of barbecuing fillet, you barbarian.

Something a bit more robust like rib eye or rump works better on the barbecue, I find.

How do you tell if someone is vegetarian?

Wait 20 seconds or so and they will tell you.

I certainly don't eat everything as per the "Things so dirty even YOU won't eat them" thread but a good mix of meat and veg

Vegetarians... if you love animals so much, why do you keep eating their food? wink

Well, I'm not a vegetarian. Or a vegan. Or a gluten-and soy-free vegan. No food restrictions for me.

Never eaten anything I wouldn't eat again (and I've eaten street food in China!).

Vegetarians need to be made to live together on an island (Greenland?), fussy eaters can go with them along with people who object to hunting etc. laugh

My wife was a Vegetarian when we met, it took me three weeks to convert her.

She even believed me when I said I was buying her veggie cheddar (I was unwrapping mine, cutting it in half and wrapping it in cling film), hey presto veggie cheddar. I'd make a beef stroganoff and take the meat out when plating it up, hers would then just have mushrooms, hey presto, veggie stroganoff.

Everything in moderation.

Cannot really understand vegetarians to be honest, but up to them I suppose. The truly wierds in my experience, at least, are vegans. Neurotic self obsessives, definitely ones to avoid, unless in the mood for a wind up that is.

Show me a man who's a vegan and I'll show you a man who's trying to shag a vegan.

What are you having with the steak? I don't think your entire meal will be meat.

It's a bit of a treat to be honest....but you're right. It won't be all meat.

- 350g fillet steak each
- Pork and ale sausages
- Goose lard potatoes
- Oven roasted winter root veg

In all fairness, my starter will be veggie (home made asparagus soup), and apple and rhubarb crumble for desert but no doubt it'll be non-veggie for some bizarre reason.

But that's not my point....most "alternative eaters" will tell you within seconds (as stated above), they eat some random diet and try and crucify you for eating things you enjoy.

An ex from a couple of years back was a veggie and she tried to convert me by making quorn sausages and burgers for me. They were grim and tasted like oily paper. I've no idea why you could replace this over meat. I even tried quorn bolognese and it was equally disgusting. It's not an alternative to meat and never will be.

We broke up pretty quickly hehe

Interesting that the "normal" categories are about what people do and the rest of them are about identity. Maybe that's what rubs people up the wrong way - "I am a..." rather than "I don't eat..."?

My wife was vegetarian as she is Indian, after 2 years now eats chicken and non-fishy fish. Working on the red meat but it's not getting anywhere.
