I have just had an service and the garage has told me that the bottom of my radiator is bowed and needs replacing.
I've never heard of this before, is it a genuine fault, if so how do I check and would it cost £1200 to replace?

any advice would be welcome

£1200 to replace? They're having a giraffe!

Quick search shows you can source a new rad yourself for a lot less & they're not hard to replace yourself.
