Hi everybody,

I have a good (by which I mean dull but serviceable) daily runner for my commute of 70 miles a day but am now looking to branch out in to something cheap and fun for weekends and maybe one day a week of the commute.

Budget ideally no more than £3k. I will probably be putting no more than 3,500 miles a year on this and therefore existing mileage and reliability aren't as vital considerations as they normally would be so I am hoping that £3k could get something that would definitively tick the 'fun' box.

Looking for either a hot hatch or convertible. So far I'm thinking from the convertible angle: Merc SLK, MX5, MR2. Hot hatch: Type R. And all things considered, at present I'm narrowing it down to the SLK or the type r.

Any thoughts, good sirs?

You'll struggle to find a decent type-r at that price. Thought of a Clio 182/172?

Ok, Sorry for offering up two cars I found on the classifieds. Not convertibles or hatch backs.
But I think both would make good ocassional classics with bags of character.

Surely something with a bigger, madder engine is more appropriate for minimal miles? smile

A bit out of budget but they do appear for a similar amount.
not a car for commuting but epic fun to drive and they make the most amazing noise.
