removing gunk from suede

i hada steering column fab'd for my track car. it has a quick release boss but i supplied the weel so the garage could move the car around as required. they wrapped the steering wheel in protective foam all over, or so i thought. in the main it is fine but all 3 spokes were taped up with industrial masking tape and so i now have glue residue over the suede.

i am annoyed and normally would go down to get it rectified, but they're a 2hr+ roundtrip.

how do i safely remove this? i tried some suede shoe cleaner to no avail. don't want to use anything that will discolour the suede as it's a brand new sparco wheel.

Perhaps one of the citrus based stuff removers would be more gentle than the solvent based ones? I have no idea though it might be the other way round as the citrus ones will be acidic.
