Never thought this would happen but I`m sitting with money in the bank and have lost interest since selling my last car in November.

I`ve went through the lot I think. I`m nearly 45, so a bit of an old ba$tard and in my time have had 4 bangers with carbs, 4 bangers with fuel injection, with turbos, 6 pots, inlines, Vs, I`ve had Jap. German, Swedish, twin turbos and even tried diseasels. My last car was a LS1 V8 Camaro so I`ve gave Americans a go as well.

Everything I look at now just seems like a car. I test drove a stock S4 the last week that bored the life out of me. I`ve kinda lost the notion I think as nothing really gets my interest. Is it just a phase or am I turning into an old fud? I`ve even thought about buying my gf a new car even though there`s nothing wrong with her current one. Jesus, I`m sick.

Any pointers? I tried an R33 GTR that to be honest, was a decent motor but didn`t float my boat. I think I`d like an S2 but can`t find a clean mint one. I don`t mind paying as I haven`t had an Audi inline 5.

What`s out there for up to 5 figures that won`t be daily driver? I`ve been looking at VX220s but being 6 ft odd and bald I`d look like a fruit in it.

I don`t expect everyone to be sympathetic here as it`s a public forum and we have `allsorts` with all `sorts` of cars but I`ll take on board any comments made.

Have you considered wearing a hat?

...and not one of Carmen Miranda's!

How about getting a bike licence instead? Or a bit of 4x4 mud plugging?

Get an Ariel Atom - then you can look like the Stig's older cousin

I think it would blow off. I had considered sellotaping a few rabbits to my head. From a distance they would look like hares.

Run something crap for a while. You'll get a new found appreciation for something with a bit of poke.

Hot hatch? Why not try a Focus RS (either Mk1 or Mk2) for 6 months to a year, basically depreciation free motoring. If you don't like it or get bored of it then flog it off. I'm sure there's plenty of cars in your price range where the prices have stabilised so you can buy them, run them for a few months then sell if they're not to your taste, if nothing else, you get the novelty of a new-to-you car fairly regularly!

Rizzotherat. I `ve done the 4x4 thing. I had 4 Cherokees, 2 Shoguns, a Nissan Patrol and a Grand Cherokee. Been in the mud with them all.

Buy a series Land Rover with a V8 in it, it's very different and will put a smile on your face every time you drive it.

A classic? Something pre-war even for a real contrast?

Yes, I`ve been looking at Mk1 RS Focuses. I kinda like them to be honest. That`s what I was at last night. Those and back to Cosworths but I know they`re getting thin on the ground for one that`s not a ringer or a 12 owner shed.

Get yourself a track day car and stick with something unimaginative for the road.

Build a kit car.

Restore a classic.

Exactly.
I went from TVR to V12 BMW to Pajero and never had so much fun in a car. You can have just as much fun doing 10mph as you can doing 100.

A classic first world problem :-)

Here are a few suggestions.
I'm 48 and if I had upto £10k for a car and didn't have an 80 mile commute these are a few i would be looking at.

I vote kit/classic - something that gives a sense of occasion! Had a TVR? How about a mint TVR V8S - rarer and cooler than a Chim.
