off-road trails for walking/running in south downs
Discussion
Hi guys, do any of you know if there are any off-road trails (other than the main south downs way) around the south downs which aren't too far from the Bishops Waltham side?
Looking on google maps there are loads of off-road trails in the new forest which are mapped but can't seem to see many around the SD's.
Many thanks

Do you live in B-Walts?
I don't go running and it's mostly not South Downs per se, but I really like some of the walks around the town. Heritage and Nature are the two obvious ones. The former might be a bit overgrown/boggy in the recent weather. Linked to that, there's also the old railway path from the roundabout which would be fine for running, at least for a while.
Another good walk is the Watercress Trail at Alresford.
If I wanted South Downs proper, then the first places to consider would be Beacon Hill, Winchester Hill, or anywhere on the SDW that runs across there.

If you drive to East Meon then you can pick up the route that is used for the Meon Valley Plod race:

From Bishops Waltham, go along The Hangers to the roundabout, left up the A32 then right when you get to West Meon and you can pick it up from there.
The old railway line that starts in Wickham is also a good off road running route as it is parallel with the A32. The route is here:

A very tough event that.

I've been running for 30 years and have done it all, seen it all and still love it, at the end of many very long events I've made the soon broken "Never Again" vow, I have to say that The Meon Valley Plod is the only race that I really meant it on.Steve
Never Ever Again.
Ever.
Too tough.
