So me and the Mrs want to move in together in April. At the moment all we keep talking about is where! She works in crookes in Sheffield and I work in Morley in Leeds!

We want somewhere that's got a good social scene so we can go out. It would be nice if the place was close to Sheffield or Leeds City Centre so not a lot in a taxi but have an even commute time.

I've said Horbury, Wakefield or Leeds City Centre and she's said north Sheffield so like Ecclesfield! I don't know north Sheffield at all so any suggestions would be awesome and some areas we can start to look into on good old right move!

Thanks
Rich

Yes, this sounds about right. Half way between everywhere. 10 miles to Leeds city centre and 20 mins to north Sheffield as the M1 is just a mile away.

Ossett does sound about right although we all know you'll end up in North Sheffield!

Ossett and Horbury and certainly NOT "not a lot in a taxi" to Leeds town centre. Hope you've got plenty of money.

hmmmmmm I don't think either of these areas are particularly cheap for taxis! Thanks for the advice so far though!

Unfortunately your not going to get somewhere thats an even commute AND cheap for taxi's to either city.

You could maybe look into somewhere like Cawthorne or Silkstone and then you've got Barnsley a very cheap taxi journey away?

personally i'd live in sheffield and just suck up the commute. cheaper city but more interesting and you get the peaks on your doorstep.

Dare I suggest that there is a bit of postcode snobbery around on here? I would take suggestions / comments with a pinch of salt if I was you and have a good look around.

Some people talk up certain localities, but when you have an in depth look around the suggested areas they aren’t that cracking, and in addition some of the local housing stock is very poor.

Surely just pick either Leeds city centre or Sheffield city centre. The commute to the "other" city will be suffered by only one of you but is probably no longer than each of you would have to commute from less-mainline suburbs. It then means nightlife without taxi costs.
