Hi all,

Just wondered if anyone has had a similar problem to this. Freelander 2, brand new LR battery that doesn't seem to hold a charge.

If the battery is fully charged the car will run and start fine for a few days, but will then fail to start. It works fine if jump started or the battery is recharged. Any ideas ?

Thanks

You've probably got a corroded switch somewhere (tailgate, door handle or something).

When you lock the car, initially it goes into a 'sleep' state and then it'll go into a 'hibernate' state after a short period of time. Unfortunately, if one of the switches is telling the ECU that it's still doing something, it'll never make it into the 'hibernate' state.

Water ingress into the micro switches is a common cause.

My neighbour had a freelander which did this. It took ages to work out what it was and he used to disconnect the battery overnight then one frosty day the back window exploded. The rear heated window had been permanently on even with the ignition off.
