Do it, I do/did until 2 years ago at least once a year. Pyrenees, far better than the cloged up roads of central Europe IMO.

Ferry to Santandar, then East to the Pyrenees. Depending on ferry, we normally on the first night stay in Jaca, then usually hang around for a few days in Vileha.
On the way back to the ferry we stay for a night in Logranno, for years we stayed in a shopping mall hotel on the edge of the town in the commercial district, the last we were there, I threw the dolls out the pram and dragged th lads to the town centre .... wow, lovely place.

Roads to be driven ......... easily the most important is the N260, then the road from Vileha to Sort is just fantastic.

I've done it on bikes and in cars, if I can get my dear 911 back to full health, then I'll be going later this year.... the roads are fab, they are empty of traffic, the tarmac, the best, and when you come home, you'l just realise how ste our roads are and how much traffic is on them.

Enjoy, but wait to middle of May at least becuase of snow on the passes.

Got the wife well trained as she wants to go on another road trip early this year before we sell the VX220 smile

I'm thinking maybe Route Napoleon, but haven't done any real research yet.

Currently trying to talk the GF into this:

following this last year:

It may be amended slightly to take us to a different island/Dubrovnik/Southern Italy depending on how we feel and may even be in her new 318ci as opposed to my 540i for fuel reasons! frown

My plan to go to Monaco for the historic grand prix have been thwarted by a project deadline move at work, so other than Le Mans, I think it is only going to be UK based road trips for me frown

We're looking at going to Brno via the 'Ring and Prague and maybe Romania for the Transfagarasan highway, although I think that may be a bit too far... Then the Redbullring near Speilburg, Stuttgart for the Porsche museum and back to the 'Ring.

I'm buying a house currently so limiting myself to a trip to Wales, bit of camping, bit of boozing and a fair chunk of driving round the valleys. Should be a quality little trip

Gone south-east for the last three summers (Bulgaria/Greece, Romania/Slovenia, Italy/Croatia), so we're thinking of a June/July trip up to the Arctic Circle. The route could be something like:

France, Germany, Poland, Baltics, ferry to Finland, all the way up to Arctic Circle, back south through Sweden, bridge to Denmark, ferry to Harwich.

Any thoughts, must-dos, or warnings?

When are you looking to go? We are thinking of doing the Pyrenees this year as well, probably early September drive down and then ferry back.

The roads look so much quieter than the Alps.

Tentatively in June taking in either the Le Mans test day on the 1st June or the race itself on the 14th/15th.

Nothing fixed in stone yet but if doing Le Mans race, we'll have to sort something pdq as accommodation could be a problem

Did much of your second map last year and the year before. Great roads and quieter than the Alps...

On the third bit it's worth a detour over MtVentoux just after Avignon just to break up the motorway...

After 2 years of that we're probably heading to the Dolomites this year.

I'd seriously consider leaving your route at Luchon, (your route to the town is a great road in parts by the way), take the over the mountain route into Spain to Vielha (D68A_), and from there to Sort, joining the N260 and from there to Puigcerda, and then from there back on to your route.
I've done these roads many times, the roads and scenery are fabulous. I've always tried to stay the Spanish side of the Pyrenees. A lot less traffic, a lot less expensive and less trouble if you come across the cops. What about San Sabastion (lovely town) south to Pamplona then onto Jaca from there, again fabulous road and scenery. From there head north past Biescas into France then taking the French D918n east to Arreau, then onto Luchon? Again this is stunning.

Finally somewhere like Luchon to Vielha are just 40 minutes from each other (probs 20 miles) yet Spanish Vielha will be less than half the price for a better room than in French Luchon.

Just food for thought.

Having just bought my first Porsche I am now planning a trip to the Spanish Pyrenees.
Brittany Ferries to Bilbao
1. Bilbao to Biescas at start of N260. Have a look at Pamplona on the way
2. Biescas to Campdevanol via the entire length of N260 and divert off through Andorra.
3. Campdevanol to Pamplona along similar route. Having just Wozy's photo I will do the loop, Sort to Vileha
4. Pamplona to Oviedo
5. Oviedo to Santander via Picos de Europa
Overnight ferry back to Portsmouth, 8 days and about 1300 miles

Really looking forward to it

I'd agree - also, consider going south at Puigcerda. The N116 is nice enough but hardly a driving road and quite congested. Also in my memory the road south from Bouleternere is long, not hugely interesting, and slow. I've walked, hitch-hiked, and driven down it smile
Whereas around Prats-de-Mollo is lovely.

Hi, it depends on my car. If I get the clutch, LWF and suspension done, then It will be autumn. If I leave the suspension then hopefully mid to late May,. Its not worth going any early as the passes like in the above photo can be shut.

I thought the road east from Puigcerda nice, but I'd agree it can get busier (it's best left well alone in august) and there are some fab roads south of there. My memory does get a little fudled the further east you go.
