Car is going back in May and just got all the information about what to do etc.

Car is through Jaguar Contract Hire (Jag XF).

I haven't really inspected the car with a critical eye yet ..and only glanced at the guidelines...but was wondering on Pistonhead members experience of this process (especially if you've done it with Jag Contract Hire).

How strict are the inspectors against the guidelines ? Any advice on going through this ?

Clearly if something is definitely out of place I'll get it done ..but if something's borderline I don't want to pay up front if it wouldn't really be needed. I would imagine the 2 areas that are most contentious are paint dings / road rash and or alloy wheel dings. Is there a way to get it inspected before I give it back in order to manage the process of getting it fixed myself. I don't want a surprise bill after I've handed it back because the inspectors say I need a new X,Y,Z or a re-spray of panel X, when I could probably get it sorted beforehand for a fraction of the cost.

The car is in good nick having only done 26,000 miles in 3 years...so probably nothing to worry about...I just don't like surprises.

Thoughts please.
Thanks

They will be strict - no point in having the guidelines if they don't stick to them.

You need to thoroughly read through the guidelines and my advice would be to go over your car with "hostile" eyes - actively looking for defects not thinking "oh that will probably be OK".

Alternately I found a few body shops in my area who would check over a car against the guidelines and give you a quote to bring it up to standard.

All that said, I just took a common sense approach, got a couple of things which were outside of the guidelines sorted and didn't get hit with any extra charges.

You do realise that with 3 months to go you've jinxed yourself?

I don't know how similar Jag will be to Merc, but my experiences of my lease return are at http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

YMMV though.
