When I'm a little older, with more money and more space I would like a small collection of cars that I just, like. Pretty sure everyone thinks of doing this and some are lucky enough to do so.

I'm not talking about Veyrons or Lambos, more "normal" cars of my generation or for sentimental value. My shortlist so far consists of:

E46 M3, late model 05/55 Manual Coupe
MK1 Clio 16v (first car was a MK1)
MK2 Golf GTI 8v 90' Spec
MK1 Renault Twingo (unusual, not fast, LHD only but thought they were cool as a kid on euro holidays. Don't laugh)
RL129 90's SL500

I would love to buy up cheap examples now and mothball them in storage until I have the space, but storage costs are stupid.

The M3 I'm hoping to buy in a few months. Run it as a weekend car whilst I use the train and mothball it if I need a daily.

I'm sure there will be plenty of SL's still around when the time comes albeit far more costly, ditto for the Twingo on .DE or .FR ebay sites.

The cars that I worry about getting hold of clean or original restorable examples of in the future are the Clio and Golf. There appear to be very few examples of the Clio up for grabs at all now, presumably because the Max Power years took their toll and many have been scrapped, wrapped or parted.

Golfs are getting thin on the ground now as well, many middle of the ground cars getting picked up for dub or rat projects and unlikely to see out another 5-6 years.

I might be wrong and there could be plenty of diamonds in the rough that I could turn around into original spec modern classics.

Anyway, got me thinking about what 80's/90's or 00's cars people would want in the future and how rare they are today, I.e original Imprezas.

Left field Twingo-esque examples welcome.

Mk1 Focus RS. Design classic.

Mk1 TTs look naff now but when new were revolutionary in terms of design so they'll probably come good at some time, nice ones seem v thin on the ground already.

Wtf would you want a stbox clio or golf in any collection in 20yrs? Oh and good luck persuading the wife to be. If you were keeping a DB7 Vantage, a 996TT, a 3200AC then she will probably tolerate your indulgence. A collectipn of tat...no.
Yes, and that even applies to rare 'Grales...been there, done that.

For me...SLK32, SL600, DB7 Vantage, 996TT. Cayenne Turbo.

Everyone will go on about how great the Impreza STI hatch was, and wonder why there aren't many around in comparison to the older sedans.

Look at the prices for stuff like Mk1, 2 & 3 Escorts. Not just the RS2000s etc, but the normal ones. Well these are the cars that todays 40-50 year old remember with rose tinted glasses. No different to todays 20 year old in 20 years time when he's 40.

I'm 40 & both these cars are iconic (to me anyway)

MK1 Clio 16v (first car was a MK1)
MK2 Golf GTI 8v 90' Spec

I'd also put a BMW M Coupe in the garage - ticks every box for a future classic.

I've started my quest for garage satisfaction;
Present keepers are Integrale evo2 and lotus Elise s. (if they don't write it off).
I want a third. A powerful barge that has old charm and really shovels.
My goal has always been the 500e, but there's so many I want.
Jaguar s3 xj12
M635csi
E34 or 28 m5

So many. Until I decide on number 3 I'm gonna wait.

This is going to sound stupid, but I really wish I still had my Alfasud Ti and my Metro Turbo.

I imagine they are pretty much worthless if you can find them, but I like the idea.

We are very much of the same thinking here. While I have an E34, I still get urges for a 500E, an RS2 or a Lotus Carlton from time to time. It would mean having to sell the M5, due to not having enough room at the moment, and I'm not sure I can come to terms with that in my own head. And my other cars are very much long-term keepers

The Holy Grail(s), however, is an AMG E60 or an E34 B10 Bi-Turbo, but the values have gone a bit mad of late. Just wish I'd made a move on the 60k mile one that Avantgarde had for a while a couple of years ago! frown

A decent racing puma

Maybe even a standard 1.7 with low miles and immaculate condition last time I went to the scrappy for some parts I seen 5 or 6 puma's so they're declining.
