I have bought a nice new LED TV - the first large tele I've bought since 2003! It is replacing a Panasonic Quintrix 100Hz 32" CRT unit which has survived 3 house moves and is bloody heavy.

Do these things sell on Ebay for 99p or should I just ask a friend to help me take it to the tip?

It seems a shame as it is still in perfect working order and the picture and especially sound are good.

If any one wants it, I am based in North Cheshire!

I had two that I couldn't give away about 4 years ago. Offered for free (even delivered within reasonable distance!) on the office social site, the local news agents and the local supermarkets, not a sniff.

Took them to the tip in the end.

Tried local schools or old peoples homes? A lot of these just need to show a picture and plug any fancy peripherals in.

Your old TV could be of enormous use!!!!!!!

All you need is a slow motion video camera, a sledgehammer and a recording of a Tony Blair speech.

Set it up with the Blair speech running, follow these instructions then post the results on here for everyone to use as a stress reliever!! biggrin

I'd be surprised if they'd take it. After all, would anyone buy it for more than the cost of sending a van to collect it?

The small print says that the van driver inspects and can refuse collection.

Hello.

If you decide to tip it, let me know first. I'll come and collect it instead.
My girlfriend is the only person I know who still has a non widescreen CRT telly. That one would blow her mind!

Thanks. AJ

Lie it on its back and lob a brick up so it drops on the screen. Makes an awesome bang smile

We had the last great CRT - a Phillips thing - and we couldn't give it away anyone. No one, even charities, were interested. Such a shame as it was a superb standard def TV.

I gave two away and some other stuff when I moved a couple of years ago. Someone was going through some hard times and needed a full set of furniture. Worked out great for me and gave me that fuzzy feeling.

Hi, if you want it, can you collect on Saturday? I'll warn you, you'll need a big boot and a strong back!

Just leave it outside with the remote and a sign saying 'free TV'. It will just vanish. I have done this with 3 old CRT TVs.

If you can't sell it stick it on Freecycle, it's amazing what people will come and collect, I even had a load of knackered old bricks off there some years back.

Donate to British Heart Foundation. They will even collect.
That's ironic, as I had a heart attack carrying mine to the skip!

Yup Freecycle. I see them listed on there a lot and they are normally marked as taken in less than a week.
Some (odd) people prefer them for old school console playing.

My next door neighbour asked me what to do his massive widescreen CRT and I suggested he put it on Freecycle.

Sure enough someone in the next village wanted it for gaming. They turned up in 3 Series saloon and it wouldn't go in the car, so my neighbour came round to me and I ended up delivering his TV - and helping carry it up the new owners stairs!

I bought one second hand for £50 8 years ago. Must have been £800+ new? Weight about 65kgs - nightmare to shift about. Had it for a couple of years and then gave it to a mate when I moved. He's still got it and it works faultlessly.
