was LSD standard in the saloon/sedan version of the E9x M3 or a part of a competition pack of some kind ? what LSD is it ? plate or gear?

LSD was standard, they called it the M Differential. Not sure on your other Question, but I can say it worked very well, better than a 350z's or Monaro.

It's viscus.

Plated / geared diffs are rare on road cars.

It's a plated diff like all bmw ones, just slip sensing rather than torque sensing. Does mean it had the wear downsides of both viscous and clutch type though.
