Hi, Being the lazy sod that I am & with the VXR needing an oil change & wanting to do it myself with quality oil I went off & bought a cheapish oil extractor (I know, I know!).

It will just be used for a quick "in-between" proper services but I am having problems, the tube doesn't seem to be able to get to the sump properly & suck much oil up, to be fair I tested the pump & it does extract properly so its not that.

So there lies my question does an Astra VXR 08 plate have some kind of unsuitable sump or baffles etc.?

I had the oil pretty hot as i tried to take it for a run then try & managed to get about a cup full of oil but then it stopped. It seems to get a good way down the dipstick then stop.

Any tips or is it useless?

Many Thanks in advance.

Does it not have a conventional sump plug?

Is the extractor your only option, due to lowering I presume?

if its not working, you;; just have to take it to a garage that can get under lowered cars.

Might be the oil is too hot? On some extractors, with very hot oil the tube can become floppy and collapse under suction frown

Just buy a jack and 2 stands and use the sump plug. Jesus wept. It'll take all of 10 minutes.

Those oil extractors are ste.

Thanks for the help guys, I have got axle stands etc. And usually do it the traditional way however thought one of these would be handy as a quick interim change sort of thing. Will give it one more go with the oil not as hot and then if not back to the sump plug!

cheers.

As mentioned above, those with a (metal?) reinforced tube (such as Pela) work well, the cheap ones with a normal plastic tube are more prone to having the tube soften and then collapse when hot fluid is sucked through.
