Hi there, I was travelling on m40 doing about 97 on my speedo, when on a bridge a police van was parked but obove the other side of the motoway, have I been zapped? If so whats my ticket? Any advise will be helpfull, I know speeding is wrong I don't make a habit of it but I really was only trying to make up a bit of time, I was really late! No excuse I know.

I was travelling at 84mph on the M74/M6 near the Lake District and I spotted a camera van but I was just going with all the flow of the traffic. It was a camera van on the bridge above the motorway sitting diagonally and I got 3 points and £60 fine for it. The two cars flying past me must have got a lot more.

I was looking at articles and came across this about the camera positions...

Hopefully you get off with it but at that speed I would think it would be at least 3 points.

If it was on the other side, you are unlikely to have been zapped. Also, almost all speedos read hot, so you were prbably not doing that fast. Lasty, 100 + in a 70 is where they get heavy.

They usually get in touch within a week, after 14 days ( IIRC) you can relax

It's the M40. 97 is below average speed. They'll have bigger fish to fry wink

getting to SP&L territory, but if car is registered to you at your address it's 14 days after the date of offence. Anything after that head over to peppipoo.

I got done for doing 97 mph on the A27 NSL. No real rhyme or reason, just pushing along. Anyway, I didn't contest it, just wrote letter to the court asking for leniency ".... Need car for work.... Affect livelihood etc..."
Magistrate gave me a £200 fine and 5 points. Seemed fair tbh.

I'm guessing no problems, no NIPS... O/P?

It seems to be a favourite place do do ANPR checks these days, see them up there most weeks.

I got done years ago for doing 110 down the m6. Pleaded with the court and they gave me a 1 week ban, 6 points and a £650 fine. Pleaded the same way, work in a remote area which I did at the time and there was no other way of getting there as public transport didn't exist.

I sometimes wonder if it would be just as effective for them to park non-functioning vans in places. I don't speed as a general rule of thumb (the same I'm sure as most on here) but I do keep a mental log of anywhere I've seen a van and am always doubly cautious there.
