Is that when the arse comes around? If it is, I just pulled off the tankslapper of my life!
Came into a large roundabout near me (no other cars anywhere, it's pretty flat and you can see all the exits), must have given it a bit too much coming on or there was a spill or something because the back just hung out. I turned the opposite lock (it's a four wheel drive, no idea if that was the right course of action) and it just drifted halfway around the roundabout in a perfect sideways position. Last second it just straightens up and I power off the exit! Fantastic! All luck of course, didn't have a clue, if someone saw it they would think I'm a driving god.
The wheels were juddering a lot though on the way round, didn't feel as good as it looked.
Before I get blasted for dangerous driving it was completely unintentional, good fun though.

How long have you had the car? Not long after I got my Celica (4wd) I had a low speed "moment" on a roundabout in the wet. I put it down to coming from a FWD and not driving the 4WD as it's supposed to be driven. Generally in a 4WD if it breaks traction, I believe you're supposed to put your foot down rather than lift off.

That's not a tank slapper. The main reason being that you're not on a motorcycle.
Exactly. This is a tankslapper, so called because the front wheel wobble causes the bars to bounce off the fuel tank.

Fishtailing a car about is not a tankslapper.

No, that's a powerslide. A tankslapper is when a resonance is set up on the front wheel of a motorbike and the front wheel oscillators violently from side to side, "slapping" the fuel tank. Powerslides can be fun, tankslappers less so.
Slappers in general, it varies.
Unlikely to be a powerslide given 4wd and done by mistake. Probably just sudden loss of rear grip.Slappers in general, it varies.

It can be done in a car too,see that video of that Impreza on the TT circuit
So at what point were the handlebars of that Impreza hitting it's fuel tank? Oh wait, they weren't, because an Impreza is not a motorcycle.

4 minutes inhttp://www.motorcyclenews.com/MCN/News/newsresults...
No tank slapper at 4 mins in. Mainly because that video shows a car not a motorbike.
If you want to see a tankslapper then search for that in YouTube, there are some very good tank slappers caught on camera.
A tank slapper is a high speed oscillation of the handlebars from one extreme of lock to the other, and at such a speed and with such force that rider cannot prevent it happening by holding the bars. It is not the rider purposely moving them from one lock to the other in order to try and remain on course which is what the driver of the impreza was doing in the video, I would call that fishtailling.

Survived as well.

Yes, in that Impreza video you can clearly see the handlebars of the car banging off of the sides of the petrol tank. O wait.......Edited by WaferThinHam on Friday 24th January 21:00
Edzacherly ---
I'm imagining me sat on the roof with the handlebars slapping...Bikes do it, cars would like to but they don't have the balls.

And if the rider were to actually relax their grip on the bars, the bike would sort itself out without drama.Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
