I did see that in a blog post, the last one in good condition sold for something like $8000 so I can't see the guy actually getting the full bid.

It does seem quite easy to fake or clone though, especially with the label mysteriously torn off.

The way that Nintendos luck seems to be going I suspect they will all be collectors items.

There's also a gold version of that cart which is even rarer! Anything old is worth pretty good money in the original box - a lot of NES and SNES games can go for upwards of £50. Sure wish I'd kept my mint, boxed collection instead of trading them for Playstation games........

The only Nintendo I have got is the old Game Boy. I played it the other day and forgot how dreadful the LCD was with its really poor contrast.

Well final sale price of US $99,902.00 (£60,535.66). Not bad eh? Wonder how much profit he made? Just a shame that these don't turn up at jumble sales.

If you are interested in old Video game stuff you should read up on Swordquest and the mission gold prizes.

Fascinating stuff.

I learned about that and the NWC carts via The Angry Video Game Nerd. It is a very interesting tale, especially when such competitions would only have ever been possible in the pre-internet era

Yeah AVGN was where i first came across it as well. I would love to see a documentary where someone goes in search of that stuff.

Yes, me too, I had around 20 orginal games for NES and later more than 50 for the SNES, all gone almost for free in the first Playstation era, that it was also my last gaming consolle. NES ans SNES games sold in millions in the day, how can they have become valuable?

As per usual lots of fake bidding. Item is re-listed with a buy-it-now of $65,000

I guess part of it is that people who grew up with them are now in their 30s with disposable income and a thirst for nostalgia. Boxed games are also rare so will push prices up. Then again they were £40-£50 new 20 years ago, so in that respect it's not such a bad deal. A lot of people see it as the end of the golden age of gaming, the last generation where gameplay mattered more than graphics, it was still a niche hobby, there was a real difference between the different systems and before the sports franchises, massive companies, DLC etc became a factor. Personally I think that's looking at it through roses tinted glasses since there were plenty of terrible movie tie ins and Sonic or Mario clones clogging up the systems

Timed versions of Mario 1, Rad Racer and Tetris. Probably a bit pointless putting Battletoads on them since 99.99999999% of people can't get past the second level
