1M owners - what have you upgraded or changed on your car?

Mines totally standard atm - not sure whether to keep it and swap/add a few bits, or sell it now that i've 'scratched the itch' and move on. I like the look of the front splitter that i saw on a 1M at the Pistonheads Sunday Services, and i'd also be tempted to swap to Michelin Super Sports - money well spent? Maybe have a geo done?

I'm not a 1M owner but I've read that replacing the centre section of the exhaust with one from an N55 powered 135i gives decent performance gains and a great improvement in exhaust note. The N55 pipe doesnt contain secondary Cats therefore doesnt oppose the flow with as much restriction as the standard 1M pipe.
Its a total bolt off bolt on mod. No cutting or chopping required. And its a 100% OEM part.

Sorry Shaven, I've only just noticed your question on the Porsche forum RE Supersports. I swapped the Michelin Pilot Sport Cups on my gen 1 997 GT3 for Supersports, the 1M stayed on PS2's.

The mods I did carry out were :
Sparco seat install.
Alcantara steering wheel.
N55 mid section.
Decent geo.
Replace the cheap 'n nasty looking tailpipes.
AP 6 pot front brakes with 368mm discs and RS29 pads (albeit they were only on the car for few weeks before I sold it).
Sparco seats :
Exhaust tips :
Steering wheel :
Brakes :

How was the balance running only the front AP Kit? I've been considering the AP brakes but was rumoured to believe that running front's only upsets the balance? To be honest, I can't stomach £5k for the full set.

Absolutely fine, no issues at all. I did the same on my CSL, again, no issues.I've been considering the AP brakes but was rumoured to believe that running front's only upsets the balance? To be honest, I can't stomach £5k for the full set.
The caveat being both cars were used for fast (very) road use only. Track use may possibly uncover a balance issue, but if it did, I'd balance things out by experimenting with differing pad compounds front to rear.
P.S If your interested I still have the complete set (front and rear) off the 1M available for a lot less than £5k !
N55 mid pipe mod a bit overated by our 1M owning friends across the pond IMO. It does allow the turbos to spool up a tad quicker, and as Simon says, it makes more noise during the initial cold start phase, and when things get really hot, allows a few more pops and crackles on the overrun (and good whump) when you change up close to the rev limiter.
Matt at Fearnsport will do a decent geo set up along with CG.

I forgot to say I also have the N55 mids - sounds greater when on cold start.
That's not too far away. ThanksI forgot to say I also have the N55 mids - sounds greater when on cold start.

When I had mine I changed to Supersports and thought they were a big improvement. If I had kept it I would have changed the seats to BMW Performance ones, far better than the standard ones IMO, they should have been an option from new.
I have supersports on the CSL - seem a very good tyre, but to be fair the only tyre i have had on the CSL so can't do a comparison. The Performance seats i'd like - trouble is though i have heated and electric seats so not desperate to swap

Cheers. I've only heard good things about Fearnsport too. Did Matt do yours?V8A*ndy said:
I would seriously consider doing the tyres and the exhaust though.
re exhaust - i'd like to hear more 'noise'. From owning cars like the CSL, C63, GT3 etc.. i find the 1m very quiet in comparison.shavenhaven said:

They're a lot noisier outside than most give them credit for.Yep Matt @ FS did the geo on mine. Played with the toe settings front and rear and wound on as much camber as possible (not a lot compared with Stuttgarts's finest mind)
Seats, geo and brakes were the biggest improvements. The standard seats are utterly hopeless (lack support and don't suit my freakish frame) The geo made the front a lot more grippy and stable, the brakes took the car to another level, the reduction in unsprung weight made the steering lighter, more feelsome and responsive. The improvement in braking power was all the more impressive, as the standard stoppers aren't bad (for a BMW)

I don't find the seats too bad tbh, for a BMW mind. Certainly wouldn't say NO to a set of CSL seats in it though. It's the handling/grip i feel needs tweaking - i find coupled with the PS2's, i lack confidence in the 1m. point to point I'm deffo quicker in the CSL - such a great car..Yep Matt @ FS did the geo on mine. i need to make some decisions. Keep the 1m and spend a bob or two on getting it right (or how i'd like it?), or swap it for another 911
I actually found my CSL was easier to drive faster than my 1M at the same sort of speeds on the track. Both cars had PS2's.
I like the challenge of the 1M - very rewarding when you get it right and a real balance of the gas pedal/steering input - especially with the throttle M button activated which is too severe at times.
Another vote for CSL seats. Would be perfect for me.

At the risk of being castigated, my 1M had reached a level that driving it in the manner it deserved to be driven on the road, was only going to end one way. Accordingly I sold it rather than have what would've been the mother of all accidents.
It was that confidence inspiring I found myself applying dabs of "oppo" in 80-90 Lepton corners and then giggling that the car allowed me to drive it with such aplomb. Talk of 1M's with 400-450 hp just seems rather pointless for road use, the standard car is a perfect blend of usable power and grip.
I'd agree that the CSL (I drove 30k miles in mine over three years in all weathers) initially felt more usable and biddable, but get the geo setup on the 1M to your liking and you'll find it even more confidence inspiring than the CSL. The 1M feels like it has more front end grip, add in the additional weight over the CSL's sublime feel, and it allows you to take real liberties.
