Rear Screen Replacement / Upgrade

I was one of those hero's / sado's who had the roof down over the weekend to make use of the last of the sunshine.
Problem was that my rear screen section split when it was folded (Bugger bugger bugger). Whilst i assume it was because it was cold, could the screen have become brittle after polishing it last week with AutoGlym Super Resin polish?
I have been told about a company in Byker (Necastle) who can replace the screen, but has anybody considered a zip-out rear screen upgrade. I used to have one on an old MG, and it did mean that the screen could be stowed flat, avoiding any creases. This may also allow the hood rail to be folded a little flatter, giving you a better view out of the back.

Yep, it is possible to get it done, however you are at the opposite end of the country.
I discussed the matter with Fernhurst and the guy that does it for them said it can be done, he does the same for all sorts of softops and says the TVR is no different.
Might be worth giving them a call to find out the finer details, all I really know is that there was an extra cost associated because templates need to be made.
For the record, I'd had a large service and other odds and ends done so opted for the standard replacement paid for by the insurance company. Have you spoken to yours?

Try putting the heater on before you take the roof off it will make the rear screen more supple...
Obviously we would turn all heating off before actually driving.... you may leave it on along with your driving gloves

Aerospace 303 makes the screen much more supple. And as a bonus it cleans it too - gets rids of those black strut marks. It also has UV prtection so should slow the deteriation down.

Well worth the money as it can be used on the leather and the rubber seals.

Not sure why it would look 'hideous' Richy? The ones i've seen on other cars follow the original profile of the plastic, and with the zip hidden externally under a flap. Externally it should look no different from standard, the rear vision should not be effected, and it should avoid the need to fold up / bend / scratch the rear screen when it's folded.
I will speak to the local trimmer and see what he thinks..
Good tip with the pre-heating, wish somebody had given me that tip last week....
