Type 5 as far as I know.

I changed the oil seals and gaskets on my 1979 Taimar, 4 speed, so it should be the same.

What I know about gearboxes from wedges and kit car stuff.

The early 4 speed Essex box is NOT the same as the 5 speeder, and it's a good deal stronger than the 5 speeder.

The 5 speeder was based on a smaller 4 speed box (might be the 2000E one ? not sure). This smaller 4 speeder was used behind 2 litre and 2.3 Cortinas, and probably in many other places too....

Yeah, I saw a tuning article a while ago which reckoned they were good for over 280BHP without any mods, and that same article said the type 9 5 speeder was pretty much on its limit with a mildly tuned 2.8. (which I think would be 180BHP ish ?)
