Was clearing out some boxes at the weekend and found the Caterham marketing pack from 1998 which I'd stashed for prosperity. Not sure if anyone will find it interesting but I did (Geek?)

Lovely pic of a matching pair of silver Caterhams on the front.

I don't know what the hand outs are like these days but I was surprised by the quantity.
The triple fold of the 21 is practically a poster- I know the history and understand why it was dropped but bl**dy hell it is pretty IMO.
Wife was most amused by the brochure in the centre with ties, fleeces and other odd co-branded goods :-)

Given the recent "comments" on the price, performance and value of the 160 I thought the VX Classic was interesting- (refurbished) Live rear axle, similar performance to the 160/165, similar poverty spec.

In '98 the Classic was £11K, to me that suggests the 160 is not at all unreasonable at £15K given the greater new parts count and 16year time gap. (A Superlight R was £24K now north of £33K IIRC, ok I realise its changed alot too...)

On that point I also read the Complete Kit Car review of the 160 in the library (WHSmiths :-) amused that the only gripe was the size of the footwell, which the author spent many column inches lamenting! I can't believe it is that bad with so many PH owners likely being powerfully built company director types ;-)

In 1992 the Classic was £8495 with Brooklands aeroscreens, steel wheels and an 84bhp GT crossflow on a downdraught. I bought one.

I've still got a lot of marketing paperwork from 1994/95 which was when I started doing my research.

Its had an interesting evolution of outputs, IIRC the lowest output engine was about 34bhp (Austin A35 motor?)

Hi scubadude,

I don't suppose you would like to sell the pack would you? I had mine up until recently that I got from the motorshow but it got thrown out by mistake, I was gutted frown

The pack was what I drooled over until I eventually got my first (of 5) Caterhams!
