Rare as hens teeth but properly quick fast estate. Has anyone any experience of driving one of these... I'm interested to know how they compare to the Germans and hold up:

By all rights they're excellent and properly capable fast saloons/estates, but I just couldn't live with that front end.

Don't buy one without the 20" Alloys.

Probably a very good car, but it's not the prettiest thing in the world is it?

At £23k I'd be spending it on a VXR with a V8 in it.

Having said that, I think it will be a performance bargain in 3 - 4 years time when its £8-9k

So £10k depreciation in 3 years probably the same as a new bmw touring or Audi avant

I've driven a few on VXR track days and they are a worthy cheaper alternative to the S4's of this world.

Do remember though it is a heavy car. Despite the massive brakes it doesn't stop anywhere near as well as an Astra or Corsa VXR, and for that matter it didn't actually feel as quick despite the impressive bhp figures. That was on track though, may be a different story on the roads.

Cornering wise it's a competent and predictable car, surprisingly easy to hustle along given its weight. Go have a test drive and see what you think, although as that price I'd be tempted by a VXR8 which is an even bigger bargain IMO.

I think the non-VXR car looks brilliant, they really stand out from the usual cars here in RO.

According to evo test it's quicker than the v8 top end as no limiter... Good for 170mph

So how would you get a 300+ bhp estate full of kit less than 3 years old for less?

You're probably right, and I'm the first one to call out badge snobs. So i'll gladly take it on the chin.

Still, I really don't like Cavaliers Insignias, though.

and when you come to sell it, that snobbery will still be going on, only this time you have much older V8 with a Vauxhall.

I don't like badge snobs, sadly there are loads of them about and people do worry what their car says about them.

I actually like the Insignia VXR, especially in blue, but 20" alloys? Ridiculous.

Not sure, but maybe B8 S4 might be near that price range now?

Are they going to Facelift this?

As the new Facelifted Insignias look stunning from the front

On paper they sound nice but in reality I can't shake the chav image that comes with the Vxr range especially in Arden blue. And before I get shot down in flames I did look at a red insignia hatch in Aberdeen recently at a ridiculously low price , and thought it would make a nice car for the wife.

In red with the 20,s it looked nice but just didn't do anything for me at all , I think a lot of it comes down to the unique look of the front end, it's too americanised for my liking.
