Pioneer AVIC X1

Does anyone have the Pioneer AVIC X1 installed in the TVR?
I'm curious to know if it sits flush as the factory fit unit or sticks out from the dash when not in use.
The spec says it's DVD compatible but isn't clear if this is for navigation and movies only or if it also includes MP3 DVD's (I'm converting my entire library of CD's to MP3 and burning them onto DVD's). I've not found anyone who can answer this one (yet).

I know it fits in a Cerbie cos I am thinking of getting one. I was concerned that the screen would not sit upright as the dash does bulge out above the where the hole is for radios etc. But it does fit.
In the blurb in the brochure it says it is MP3 (amongst others) compatible but then does not go on to detail anything else on MP3s (while it does about everything else). I heard somewhere that it is NOT MP3 compatible, so may be worth your while double checking on that.
The other down side from what I can see is that you have to have the route DVD inserted in the machine at all times if you decide to change your route. So, unless you have a CD changer in the boot you cannot listen to music all the time. If you need to change your route you would have to take out your music CD, insert the map DVD and let the system recompute the journey. As a Pioneer CD changer can be got for less than £100 I suppose in the grand scheme of things it is not that bad.
Where are you considering buying it? I know of a cheap place to buy it but then you would have to get it installed elsewhere.

I've got one in my Tuscan.
It does fit flush when not in use, it does play DVD's (region 2 only - dunno if there's a hack to get around this), it does play MP3 encoded CDs, you do need the nav dvd in the head unit if you stray appx 10 miles off your route (it stores this in 68Mb internal memory) or you lose nav information.
The system works brilliantly. On a recent trip to Normandy & Brittany it got me to the exact spot I wanted each & every time, even when using the most obscure D roads. I think it only lost itself twice enroute & each time recovered in <30 secs.
The only downside is that the voice guidance volume is too low, you can only really hear it at town speeds & not at all with the roof off!

Only downsides are having to have the Map disc in if you want to re-route and it not playing MP3s from DVD, though I gather there is a way it can be done - check out www.avicx1forums.com/forum/
If only Pioneer did an MP3 capable CD-Changer, you could leave the map disc in all the time.
I find some of it's user-interface a bit quirky though - it feels like the MP3 function was an afterthought.

I fitted one to my Tuscan, there is a thread somewhere on it.
It works fine with the Tuscan pod, it plays DVD's and MP3's on a CD without problem.
The only issue is that to play a DVD or CD you have to remove the Sat Nav DVD, but it will remember the route you have set-up, it just doesn't allow you to enter a new route! (I think it has 64mb Ram to store the current route while playing CD/DVD)
It's a great unit and 100 times better than the BMW Sat Nav system !!!!!

Well I've had a look to try & identify the speed signal wire as it goes into the dash pod, couldn't see a thing - the only way to tell looks to be taking the pod off.
I'd suggest that anyone who needs the info has a quiet word with the mechanics at the local dealership. Hopefully if they know you & your car they'll impart the knowledge (esp. if a drink's in it!).
