I would keep the red one's.
Never been quite sold on the clear ones albeit one's choice.
Your car looks very nice with the red interior a classic combo.

I agree… however the car which I purchased (off the lot) had all this carbon fiber on it and since it's exterior is BRG, it's not too noticeable. The discount was such that it didn't matter… however if I order the car I would not have opted for the mirror/inserts/strakes in CF. Does anyone want CF strakes?

The first Vantage, no sills, better wheels, etc etc, is the one to have, the first 1000 have better engines as well, will always be more collectable in years to come, might not be as fast as later models, but if speed was important, you would have bought a 911 anyway....

What's the theory / facts behind the first thousand having better engines?

A myth..... Probably started by owners of the first 1000hehe

I believe the theory is they had better components, and were built to closer tolerances....... In practice I suspect there is little difference....

A similar rumour went around back in the 90's that the early 16v vauxhall engines were better than the later ones.... In this case it was true, as the early engines had heads manufactured by Cosworth.....later ones were made by vauxhall and weren't as good..smile.... Even to this day, folk seek out the early heads....... Not many folk seek out the early Vantage over a later one thoughsmile

Connecting rod; The first 1000 4.3L Vantage engines were built with steel (expensive and strong) connecting rods, from then onwards normal production utilised sintered connecting rods (cheaper and weaker but nonetheless fit for purpose). ~16 Bar / 540BHP forced induction cylinder pressures and temperatures on steel rod = probably OK, but nonetheless unproven. The same conditions sintered rods = failed rod and written-off block highly likely. Remember the comment so few being used so little..

Not a myth then Quinney?

Not a myth, but highly unlikely that folk would seek out, and pay a premium for 1 of the first 1000......

Unlike the vauxhall situation, where the Coscast heads are highly prized....

What on earth does this have to do with the original post - which is about a V12V having red lights put on to replace the clear lights confused

I agree with Quinny because I cannot recall any issues with the later V8 4.3 engines against earlier and anyone with any sense will go for a 4.7 anyway because it is a much better engine - just my opinion.

And the facts are :-

Prior to V8 Vantage production Ford stipulated that all engines in the premium auto group had to be lead free. Problem for aston is that the big end bearing was lead indium construction. A tri metal tin bearing was developed to go with a sintered rod, the previous rod in development used with the lead bearing was steel. So at the same time as bearing swap the rod was going to be costed down too (so steel to sintered rod and lead to tin bearing). Great plan until 5 minutes before production and all sintered rod / tri metal tin bearing engines seized up after 3 minutes running. Factory panic to keep production date was to build the first 1000 cars with the very durable steel rod and lead indium bearing. The problem was later found to be the bearing company supplier cocking up manufacture of the tri metal tin bearing and when this was proven and corrected production after 1000 went back to sintered rod and (good) tri metal bearings. The quality of rod and bearing ONLY of the first 1000 engines is better than the subsequent, however, the tri metal bearing and sintered rod is still very (perfectly) durable (GT4 race is sintered). So whilst 'technically' lower quality parts are in subsequent 1000 engines, performance and durability is still the same making the first 1000 engines no better than any others in reality, the build spec of the first 1000 was a fire fighting fix to maintain production dates and get coin rolling in

George is a complete and utter bell end who wouldn't use the unbelievable talent of Bamford Rose as it would ruin his unused 100% original car thumbup
