Went to fire up beastie on sunday after a 2 week lay up in the garage. Accumate connected via cig lighter socket and showing battery fully charged. Disconnected Accumate, turned key, pumps fire up then turn key to crank and click battery dies no power showing at all. Tried windows dead etc. Re-connected to Accumate and 2 lights on left hand side flicking on and off alternately.

I assume battery is borked, any tests i can do to prove this or anyone had the same issue?

My battery died a little while ago. The fuel pump didn't even prime so I charged it on a fast charge for a few hours and then it had a bit of juice in and the pump primed and it started to turn over but then died.

I ended up calling RAC and they tested it and I paid for them to fit a new one. I have since bought a battery and alternator tester from LIDL of all places, 2.99! It certainly sounds like the batter but I guess the only way to test it for sure is to get it plugged into a battery tester!

A multimeter (Maplins £7.99) will tell you a fair bit, but the best test is to get the thing out of the car (undo positive and negative terminals, undo the two nuts underneath the car, lift the whole battery box until the bolts are clear of the holes, then drag backwards until you can remove the battery). Note which way around the battery is in the car - see later.

Then take it to your local, independent, trusted battery supplier and get them to test it with a proper battery tester. It does a lot more than check the voltage. Then buy something like and Exide Excel. But note which way around the battery goes, as the model Exide list (I think its a 72) is the wrong way around and you need the 73 with the terminals the other way round.
