I have been emailing a few sellers asking a few questions about their cars in the anticipation of replacing mine (have decided to fix it now)

I got a detailed response from a nice chap selling a low-mileage-for-its-age polo with full service history. His response to whether the cam belt had been done was

"Great news, it was changed in 2007, you can see how few miles its done, it has only covered 30,000 since"

I struggle to see how a 7 year old cam belt is great news hehe

Depends on the specified interval, whether it's an interference engine and prevalence of failures. I'd be willing to bet there are loads of cars going to their graves after 15 years and 100K plus on the original belts.
