DVLA - sorn a race car?

Just a quick question - I race an old MGb - I have no log book for it and not sure guy I bought it from had one. Reading all posts on needing to sorn cars, do I need to anything, or just continue in ignorant bliss??? (Not sure if this post should be here or in SPnL?)

if you have no log book you cant sorn it so I wouldnt worry. The car will have lost its identity at some point..

Also, if it hasn't been taxed since the concept of SORN was introduced (circa 1998 or so) there is no need to SORN it.

no, you'd have to had it registered in your name to worry about that best left that way maybe.

do you have any reason to think the history of the car might be "iffy"?
ive not yet seen this at car trackdays, but there are occasional stories of bike trackdays where cops have pulled over vans entering the circuit and checked VIN/chassis numbers of the bikes within - which turns up a (non?) surprising amount of stolen bikes.

appreciate this isnt exactly the same scenario we are talking about here with proper race cars; its harder to steal and hide a car than an easily broken bike.

Both of my race cars still have the V5's and are sorned,

Worth having the V5 so not to put of a potential buyer if and when the time comes.

You can check the status of the car on the DVLA site without having to stir them up at Swansea. If It's still on there you can apply for a V5, you can even if it's not but you will probably have to get it inspected to verify the identity. Even if you get it registered in your name you probably wont have to sorn it if it hasn't been taxed for a long time.
