How Many JPE 10 Gall Saddle tanks ever got fitted?
Discussion
Hi
I have one in my car which is an HPC and I have never seen another one so nice to finally hear from someone who has one. Andy Wiltshire of Axminster did have one for a while but he has now sold it, that one was taller than mine and circa 12 galls capacity
My understanding is they were very expansive to make so not many we're sold and then they were discontinued. James Whiting told me they were developed for endurance racing, they wanted increased capacity and needed to have the tank in front of the rear axle to comply with regs
I have some questions that you may be able to answer
1) have you ever removed the tank? If you have does it come out from the top or bottom.
2) what do you about a fuel gauge? The standard one is useless and given location of the sender it tends to leak

Hi Alan,
Yes mine leaked up thru the screws until I sealed them with an aero industries product called PRC, yes a bugger to get out, thru the bottom, but not too much of a drama as I had the diff out to check it over, does yours have the link pipe at the bottom too? I have a Stack dash with a proper sender 44 ltrs brimed and reports faithfully, I also had to fit a pump fed sump around the pick up as I used to get bad fuel surge on left handers, down side of that tho is when it's out it's out!!!

Hi
We thought mine was also leaking through the screws on the sender unit but on close inspection it was leaking through the centre of the sender unit! Currently running with a blanking plate and no sender or functioning gauge.
I am looking at the stack option, do you have a special sender for that? I would want to link to a separate stack fuel gauge.
My tank has a balancing pipe low down in the middle and the fuel supply was taken from there when it was on carbs but now on TB's I use the high capacity fuel pump in the left side of the tank and so far no issues but not been on track with low fuel levels to really test it.
I thought I had solved all the leaks last year but took it out last weekend and petrol smell is back, need to check all the pipe connections etc, hope its just a lose connection or similar cannot see anything from the tank but the seals around the fuel pump are also a known weak point.
As for the AP handbrake caliber pads I have no idea where you get those, mine will never wear out though as it is useless it is used once a year for the MOT!

Hi Alan,
My tank has a vent in the middle at the top front edge in which I have a rollover vent valve in it that often smells then stops, I run Jenvey ITB's with a return line back to tank with a regulator @51psi, I have fuel pressure alarmed @ 40psi and I've had it alarm on low level a number if times, with an indicated 6 Ltrs, but now with the swirl pot if it alarms thats about it!!!!I'm out.I always carry a can especially if I'm out with no fixed destination.

Hi
I have a standard one way breather to the same place but never had a problem with it, actually plan to change it because I noticed pressure in the tank on hot days which I assume was not helping the seals. So I have a new two way one to fit, will do that and check all the other fuel hoses when I next get some time to work on the car.
What sender is you stack unit connected to?
Presume you have the fuel pressure gauge fitted to the return line from what you have said, is that correct?

HI Alan,
No my fuel transducer is on the fuel Rail, the fuel level is one that was in the kit from Stack, I did not do that fitment a friend did that was helping me, he a wizz with electronics me better with a lump hammer so I was fighting the dry sump pump and plumbing!!! as the car is not what you would call the (norm)!!

I´ve got some JPE de-dion ears with the radial calliper mountings, they are 2 degree camber IIRC ? I went a different route with the parking brake though.
If you have problems getting pads for your spot callipers, speak to BG developments, they may be able to cut some for you on their water jet machine, from a larger donor pad.
They did just that for me, when I couldn´t get road compound pads for some formula car callipers.
