Afternoon all,

I work in an office in the City of London have just finished eating my lunch I bought from Tesco on Bishopsgate. It included Spinach, Beetroot, Pear and Chicken and was shared with a colleague and cost us £3.50 each.

Normally I try not to eat bread so without going to Tesco I would struggle to find a lunch for under £5 around here so I was just wondering what other PH's try and spend and where they get it from?

I just make my own at home, takes 10 minutes and saves a shedload of cash (especially when I am keeping portion sizes controlled).

Typically, I have Smoked Salmon, half a wholemeal pitta and cucumber, pack of sunbites, apple and banana. Costs roughly £2 per day.

I work in the city too and my lunch spending was getting out of control, used to average 7-10 pound a day.

I have now tried to reign in this as most of the time a simple sandwich from home will do the trick.

I tend to make a sandwich and bring yoghurt/fruit too - varies depending on what I put in my sarnie but I would say no more than £2 daily.

About half what I'd spend when I bought lunch daily even out here in the sticks.

Used to work at a place with a subsidised canteen.

Not bad food at around 2 quid a day.

Current place the canteen charges about £5 / 6 per meal.

I now bring a sandwich, bag of crisps, bit of fruit, biscuit.

I take my own as my work involves driving around in a van, service station prices are extortionate and not healthy, I used to easily spend £5-7 day and weigh 17 stone, I now take bowl of couscous and a few apples, plus a flask of coffee, works out at less than £1/day, and I weigh considerably less too!

About £8-£10 a day for lunch, + £5 for brekkie and a coffee that's a fair few quid when I think about it.

Mrs Pints usually makes me a sandwich and packs a piece of fruit or two.

Broker shop.

It is hard for me to keep the cost down, I am quite picky when it comes to healthy food and the culture where I work is to go out and buy lunch or have it delivered which is expencive and usually not very healthy. I find the salad places are stupidly expensive for what they sell round here and the protein portions are tiny! I am going to make an effort this year to bring stuff in from home pre-prepared or just go to Tesco.

M&S meal deal, sandwich, smoothie and a yoghurt for £3.29. I always used to bring my own sandwich and some fruit but I seem to have got out of the habit at the moment.

a few days a week i'm having a healthy lunch delivered at £5 all in. Comes in a steam bag with the carb and side separate.

1 portion of meat in various seasonings (chicken, turkey, steak or salmon)
2 portions of some sort of vegetable
1 portion good carbohydrate, brown rice, sweet potato mash etc
1 side of some sort, usually dried fruit, boiled egg or avocado etc

I think it's quite a good deal for £5. It's really varied and always tastes delicious. It's mainly marketed at health conscious gym goers, both of which I am not, it is nice however to have a decent meal whilst at work!

Could probably make it myself cheaper but I probably wouldn't and end up buying pre packed sandwiches!

We have a subsidised canteen. You can get a meal deal which is normally things like chicken burger, chips, beans and a hot desert (with custard) for £2.10. I add an extra 60p for a bottle of water but normally I get the soup, bottle of water and a snack of some kind for 60p + 70p + 60p or £1.90 if my high school maths has worked out right.

Mine are typically anything from 50p (leftover sausages with a small tesco baguette) to £3 for something from the reduced section. I also try to bring in pasta/risotto once a week (leftovers/make extra for lunch). If I'm lazy I will buy a £2.20 prawn triple sandwich though.

Never venture far from the Cheapside tesco, maybe M and S if they don't have fresh bread.

The butcher on Bow Lane is also good - hot fresh meat to have with salad or their potatoes at sub £4

It sure is smile

Only reason I mentioned the area in my original post was to try and give my question some context and I hoped that other people who work here and elsewhere would state what they eat for some lunch ideas (they have).

It's only a good deal if you're really not capable / can't be arsed to do it yourself.

We usually cook 5-6 seasoned chicken breasts in one go then have them with salad, couscous, pasta, rice etc for lunch.

Easier if you do it in batches and it will save you a fortune.
