Just out of curiosity, how is Safe Speed funded? I gather the founder gave up his job to run it.
The short answer is badly. I could use some help.
At present it's memberships, donations and debt juggling. I'm £7,500 out of pocket (Could have been a lot worse).
I have a budget plan for next year that would make excellent use of £279,000.
If anyone wants to offer support personally you need to visit:
www.safespeed.org.uk/join.html
If anyone wants to help me arrange proper funding (and I confess to having no experience or skills in fund raising) then email me at psmith@safespeed.org.uk
Ideally I'd like to find a rich patron. Second most ideal is commercial sponsorship.

At my reckoning all it should take is a thousand or so PH'ers to sign up for a lifetime membership to generate the funds you need. Its dissappointing that so many are prepared to spout off about their rights yet so reluctant to part with a little hard earned to do something about it.
Maybe some cluse as to what the 1/4 mill would be funding might spur some wallet opening action?

If the likes of "brake" get funding, are you not able to apply for something?
Of course if you're not interested in doing the analysis, then you can spend all your time on fundraising.
More seriously, it's about fund raising skills, time and contacts. Those are very weak areas for me.

This is the broad brush:

Open and operate small Midlands office £30,000
London base £14,000
HGV40 co-ordinator £35,000
Seeding university research £100,000
Total: £279,000
Paul
That looks good value for money compared to say, the average MP's expenses claim.
Come on guys, Paul needs finance. Unlike the spnracing's of this world he's had the bottle to stand up for his beliefs, and is fighting the cause on our behalf.
How many times have you wished someone would stand up for the motorists rights? Shouldn't you support someone who is doing his damndest to do so? We need to get behind SafeSpeed and make sure that he gets the platform he deserves to put forward the arguments against scameras.
Many of you will have paid hundreds for Road Angels and the like to protect your licences. Think about it.

I don't know how the National Motorists Organization (NMA) in the US does it but you could ask the President of it. Eric Skrum runs it I think and his addy is: nma@motorists.org
They helped lobby against the National Maximum Speed limit that was finally defeated in 1995.
was what all the motorists gave the work crews taking down the 55 mph signs.

How much is a membership to SafeSpeed?
See this page:

A membership is £45. But different memberships, gifts or donations of much higher or much lower values are also appreciated.
